Nice to see all our flaws being exposed on national TV.

Marquis has been awful for 6 weeks, our OF completely sucks, our offense is inept against LHP and our trainers are beyond bad.

Yeah, aside from the fact that he hasn't.

Damn it DeRosa, what the hell

What was his July ERA again? 6?

Yeah, he's awesome.

Look at his game log. He hasn't been as bad as you make him out to be. As I said in another thread, he's the best 5th starter in baseball too.

You're right, I was wrong.

He's been bad for 9 weeks. His June ERA was over 5 and his July ERA was over 6.

Yeah, great, he can mix in one good start amidst 3 godawful ones. We should be lucky we have him for 3 years.

3 of his last 6 starts have been quality. No 5th starter in baseball has a better ERA than Marquis.

Keep the hyperbole coming.

Come on, Mizzou. "5th starter" is nonsense. That's a cherry picked fact. He's a bad starter. No contending team should have a 5th starter who pitches with an ERA above 5 for 2 straight months. You know better that that.

He had a very good April and a decent May. He's fallen off a cliff since.

This isn't my argument but I have to step in because Marquis hasn't been that bad overall. Look no further than the Brewers rotation and you'll see guys who have been more inconsistent. Marquis', arguably, the Cubs least dependable starter yet he hasn't been so bad that the Cubs are blown out every time he pitches.

This wouldn't be an issue if the Cubs had scored some runs tonight. Hell, I'm still not ready to concede this game (although, Eyre could make this a moot point).

The Brewers have a great offense, we don't. If we try and crap our rotation down to theirs, someone will win this division by 5 games.

Exactly...all our pitching has to do is come back to earth and we are toast.

come back to earth? I don't know why people contend that our pitchers are pitching well over their heads. There are 52 games remaining of a 162 games schedule. I think it's too late in the season to say that they have been lucky.

Glavine has been lucky tonight however! Lineouts all over the place.

Has Kendall thrown out a runner as a Cub yet?

Nope...but promisingly enough, I heard he successfully spiked himself in the clubhouse today...

And his two throws tonight weren't even close. One bounced in the grass in front of 2nd and the other was way too high.

He can't throw but he makes up for it by not hitting.

We'll be a game out of first if we lose, and people are writing off this season.

Mostly all of guys are pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourselves to write off a season on losing a series at Wrigley to the Mets.

One GAME OUT OF FIRST PLACE.

Again, one game out of first place.

Keep away from the ledge or stop being a fan.

We can't score a run off of a 41 year old.

It's one game. Who cares?

Glavine didn't win 300 games just on his name. He's a pretty damn good pitcher.

Care to argue with me on Glavine not being a good pitcher?

He's been a great pitcher throughout his career but these days you could put someone out there named Sally and if she throws lefthanded the Cubs don't have a chance.

as i've said, glavine is getting extremely lucky tonight, he's about to break.

You're right, two up, two down. He's ready to break.

He's given you the stats and you still can't admit that Marquis sucks. Last I heard a 4 plus ERA is not very good, let alone a 5 and 6 plus.

League average for NL starting pitchers is 4.51. League average for starting AL pitchers is 4.64. Only two NL teams have team starter ERA's under 4. There are also only 44 qualified starting pitchers in the majors who have an ERA under 4 - 23 in the NL and 21 in the AL. So by your estimation, a majority of the starting pitchers in the majors aren't good.

[meekly raises hand] But, most of the starting pitchers DO suck... [ducks]

He's also getting the outside corner.

Sorry, I won't try to rationalize the pi** poor pitching of Marquis.

marquis is not good by any stretch of the imagination, especially at his contract. the next couple of years, plus the last part of this one, he'll be a big fat albatross that no one will take unless we pay his entire salary. hopefully canning gets enough money together to make some moves.

Exactly. No one will be defending Marquis when he's paid $9 mil. to pitch mop-up out of the bullpen in '09.
