Not sure if any of you have turned on the tv or have any loved ones in Minneapolis/St. Paul, but I-35W bridge has collapsed into the Mississippi river and it doesn't look good.

3 dead so far.

Sorry I didn't want to de-rail the game thread, but just wanted to let those know who didn't know who might have family to try and contact them. Phone lines are total haywire (cellular) I can't get a call in or out.

GOOD ONE RONNIE
I really am rooting for him.

I for one am rooting completely against him.

I know, I know. Pretty obvious comment.

Anyway, we all have our favorites players that we'd like to see succeed. He's one of mine.

Initial speculation is 1) the girders were cracked 2) there was construction and jackhammering on the bridge - may have weakened infrustructure more.

MDOT is keeping their mouths shut right now. Estimated 50-100 cars on the bridge during rush hour when it collapsed.

I was ALMOST gonna take it this afternoon. Feeling nauseaus for sure.

Over time, the structural integrity of structures break down, particularly in regions with temperature extremes.

That combined with lack of preventative maintenance/inspection.

where were rowand's fundamentals when it mattered?

Are you saying it did not matter when Rowand threw well to third? If so you ought to think the same thing about chiken-wing Jacque.

yeah, i'm saying it didn't matter. lee wasn't going no matter what. jones being terrible doesn't have anything to do with it.

You completely ignored my point in order to further your own.

if jones would have lolly gagged on the play and the guy would have tagged, yes, i would have been all over him. what's your point?

oh, is it ok if i criticize jones for misjudging that fly ball by roughly 30 feet?

I just don't get

1. how you can say a ball about 10 feet from the warning track in right center 'isn't that deep'

2. how you can say Lee definitely wouldn't have gone in light of 1 and the fact that Lee went back to the bag to tag

3. why Len and Bob commenting about it gets you so fired up.

it was hard to tell since jones prevented the camera from being anywhere near the ball, but was that ball catchable?

yes, i don't think it would've been a hard catch if jones had taken a normal route.

Oh wow witnesses saying there was a schoolbus on the bridge as well. This is terrible

EDIT. The schoolbus didnt fall into river unless there was more than one on the bridge

it doesn't get me fired up, and i know lee wouldn't go because he, well, didn't go. and i really doubt it was because roward got all shifty and in throwing position.

but if you think lee would have risked making the third out of the inning at third on a medium deep fly ball to center, go nuts.

there's pictures of the schoolbus about a foot away from the edge of the collapsed bridge on msnbc.com

I think the best part of tonight so far is the Cardinals getting thrashed by the Pirates. I was starting to get a little worried about the Redbirds, but now I remember that the Cardinals have no pitching.

"medium depth"

that's kind of humorous. fudging the facts doesn't help your position on this.

what also is humorous is saying it doesn't get you fired up, when it's pretty clear from your initial post on the matter and the follow up Eckstein reference post that it got you fired up.

but whatever.

I was definitely enjoying that too, though I can't really say whether or not I like that better than the Brewers running back to their bullpen in the 3rd or 4th inning. If the Mutts and Cubs hold on, life is gooood :D

Yeah, they evacuated the bus and it did not go into the river.
