It's amazing how horrible ESPN has become. I feel like I can't trust anything they say anymore, not even their 'straight facts' reporting like the bottom-line, which I have caught in error several times.

One of the problems is that the network is overrun with former sports players. The truth is, just because you played the game doesn't make you a good sports journalist. When you're trusting guys like Morgan for journalistic integrity, you're barking up the wrong tree. They don't even know what it means.

But it goes beyond that. Just last week, during the Kendall trade, ESPN insisted that the Cubs had traded Sean Marshall for Kendall -- a ridiculous trade. I believe their own ticker had the correct trade. This is unforgivable inaccuracy.

ESPN has become the worst sports network in the world, bar none, for getting the facts right. I don't know what else to say, the network is just complete junk now.

Today on their college football show they were talking about the Oklahoma Sooners and showed a graphic that said "2006 Big 10 champs"

Yeah, that's another sore spot. Whenever a trade goes down it's always invariably "great move." Except many times it's really not all that great a move, like the Kendall move which was just blah from the beginning.

I'm sick of feeling like I'm being placated all the time by these guys. Christ, some stuff really sucks -- SAY IT.

<------- disappointed that FJM hasn't weighed in yet
It did. http://www.firejoemorgan.com/search/label/phil%20mushnick

ah... i figured they'd make fun of him some more, but i guess they do that enough in the JoeChats.

I'm quite disappointed there wasn't even a sentence or two talking about how stupid Morgan was for the mix up and how insane it was that he screwed up a fact about his own career.

Really? You guys don't like hard-hitting, integral features like Who's Now, the Budweiser Hot Seat, and following every waking move of Barry Bonds, Michael Vick, and Terrell Owens for 30 minutes a night?

You forgot the half hour dedicated exclusively to Yankee and Red Sox highlights.

Followed by an hour of "The Bronx is Burning" and a Sportscenter commercial involving David Ortiz.

I don't watch ESPN for their analysis. I watch it so I can catch the highlights of games I can't see here in Chicago. Many times the sound is off and my stereo is on. I have a feeling until a real competitor comes along, ESPN will only get worse. This Who's Now garbage really made me angry though. They've become MTV in that sense. I really don't care what nightclubs players are seen at. I'd rather know if they went 3-4 with a homer on that day.

I can't believe they're doing that nauseating "Who's Now" crap. Who's the idiot who came up with that idea? Is there really no one @ ESPN who can see how stupid that is?

Can I pile on and talk about how freakin' bad The Bronx Is Burning is? Someof the individual performances are OK, but as a whole it's a complete mess. The Son of Sam stuff has nothing to do with anything except it happened in the city at roughly the same time...no effort is made to link it even just emotionally or symbolically to the stuff going on with the Yankees. It's just, "hey, here's the Yankees fighting yet again...and here's a guy shooting people in the head. YOU DO THE MATH."

The Dugout summed it up perfectly:

didn't you hear, ESPN's new target demographic are 13-25 year old women who read US Weekly

I read the book first...thankfully. Much more intriguing and told the story of NYC in the summer of 77 in a rich way.

No kidding. It's beyond obnoxious.

I'm curious to read the book since all the subject matter is stuff I find interesting...it's just portrayed so clumsily and hamfisted in the TV series. I think I enjoy the brief interviews with the real life people at the end more than anything else.

I've never liked Joe Morgan so it doesnt' surprise me that he would embellish himself like that. As far as ESPN is concerned they are becoming more and more unwatchable.
