I love baseball. I love the Cubs.

Not much more to say. I'm having more fun with this team than any team I've ever followed.

more than 2003?

I think in 2003 it was all about pitching. That offense in 2003 was inconsistent at best. They didn't even turn it on until the last month.

Jacque Jones - was there ever any doubt?

Yahoo has screwed up just about every Cubs game I've "watched" on the computer; this is their account of the 5th inning today:

Top 5th: Arizona

- O. Hudson singled to left

- O. Hudson flied out to right

- O. Hudson homered to deep left, M. Reynolds scored

- O. Hudson popped out to third

- O. Hudson grounded out to pitcher

O. Hudson must have been tired at all that.

He even drove in some runs for the Cubs according to Yahoo:

Bottom 6th: Chi Cubs

- O. Hudson struck out swinging

- O. Hudson struck out looking

- O. Hudson singled to center

- O. Hudson singled to right, M. Fontenot scored, A. Ramirez to second on right fielder J. DaVanon's fielding error

- O. Hudson singled to center, A. Ramirez scored

- J. Jones caught stealing, catcher to shortstop

2003 was more nerve-wracking (to me, anyway). And I wasn't seeing as many of the games.

I can't speak for him, but for me, at this point; yes.

He's going to get a season's worth of AB's in one week.

It's just so much fun to see these young guys doing the job.

I don't like their points about how the Cubs cannot keep playing this well. First of all, they won't play 19-5 ball the rest of the season, but the Brewers and Padres will not play this hot as well.

Second of all, we are winning with opponent miscues and unexpected pitching performances, but we are also winning short handed.

Considering Lee is suspended, our closer Dempster just got off the DL, Floyd has been on and off hurt so often that we have no idea whether he's healthy or not, Wood might be coming back soon to improve our pen, Ward is now on the DL, etc etc etc, we should be improved even more. It's just a testament to the will of this team that we are able to stay afloat with all of this going on.

Didnt this hot run start when we swept the sox at the cell, or was it a series or two before that?

Nope it started with the sweep at the Cell. Right before that we had just dropped 2 of 3 at Texas, and I was wondering if I should even bother following the Cubs-Sox series.

It's a fun team to watch. I can't remember the last time we had a team that didn't rely on home-runs. 1989?

Yeah, same here, then in the 1st inning we got HR's from Soriano and Ramirez and it's just rolled on from there.

Yep. After Sammy's 600th, I figured that would be the last watchable thing about this team for the season. Then the 7 game win streak happened.

tune in later as we make the same comments about the brewers game!

I hear ya, I remember making similar comments earlier in the season when Counsell and Graffanino got big hits. At least you got a good hitter like Aram doing the damage and not journey man flotsam and jetsom such as Counsell and Graffanino.

i also bitch about braun and fielder not being this good, though :)

Maybe, I'm way off but, don't good teams usually capitalize on opponent miscues?

It really started to roll when we blew a 8-3 lead in the 9th to the Rocks, only to come back and win the game in the bottom of the 9th. That loss would've been devastating!

:hammer meet nail: Dead on accurate, IMO... When we look back after winning the World Series this year, that will be THE GAME which for the ages will be known as the turning point....

Look at these stats:

Zambrano 12-7 3.69

Lilly 10-4 3.58

Hill 6-6 3.70

Marquis 7-5 3.92

Marshall 4-3 3.43

Every starter with a ERA under 4. That's flippin' beautiful!
