Wow. That's a big loss. I'm guessing the Cards are wishing they didn't give him that big contract in the offseason now.

almost sounds what we would do, sign a huge contract then they are out.

at least that was the old Cubs (knock on wood)

Haha, poor cardinals. I would almost feel bad for them if this wasn't just so hilarious.

Walt Jocketty mortgaged the future to win the World Series. I wish Hendry would do the same. The trouble comes when you mortgage the future and miss the championship.

No he didn't. He mortgaged the future because he's not that great of a GM.

Yet, they manage to win the division every year. Strange how that works

2002-2006:

Yankees: 497-312

Cardinals: 470-339

Red Sox: 467-343

It would be interesting to see what he could do with an extra 50-100 million in payroll per year

those numbers don't help your argument, by the way.

I am no admirer of WJ, but the NL central has produced the NL world series representative the past 3 years.

2 of those 3 resulted in sweep losses, and the playoffs are largely a crapshoot, but it's not like the NL Central has been little league or anything.

if this were the Cubs, they'd try pitching Carpenter in September and then not put him under the knife until next spring
