Sorry if this is redundant guys, but I searched quite few pages of this thread and couldn't find it. Has there been any word of how much of Kendall's contract we are picking up?

Apparently about $900k. $5.5M of his $13M salary is being paid by the Pirates, half the remainder was already paid out by the A's this year, and they sent cash in the deal to cover a good chunk of the rest.

kendall hitting .297 over his last 25 games is the new izturis led the league in hitting for two months.

I have to admit, I do find that stat encouraging, because I am having a hard time explaining his two absolutely horrid months this year after being a very good (for average) and patient hitter for his entire career. I guess it could be easily explained in his age, but he was very good at not making outs just last year.

I'd like to see what his OBP is over that same span.

Yet in July, Kendall's line is 229/229/286 (one K). So if we've been looking at him the last two weeks we have been enamoured with his ability to put the ball in play weakly and not walk. Yup, that sounds about right.

Ugh.

How many games is that, though? I'm guessing like 11-13?

Not sure on the amount of games, but it's 35 at bats.

Do you have a source on that? I haven't seen an article saying the A's sent the Cubs money, but I haven't looked at many articles on the trade lately.

The # I've heard most is that we are going to be paying 900K for Kendall. Don't know of any definitive links though.

So unless Blevins becomes the next Willis (), it's a no nothing deal with possible upside?

Any word on the impending roster move. 90% likely Soto gets sent down.
I think they can wait until right before gametime tonight to announce the move, but everything I've read points to Soto going back down.

Even if he does, that wouldn't affect this year, and since the Cubs are clearly in win now mode I think they're probably only thinking of the affect on this year. As far as this year is concerned I think the trade could be positive or neutral, but not negative. I think the worst-case scenerio is that Kendall is as bad as Bowen/Hill; I don't think he could be any worse.

Well, Blevins was doing impressively well this year as a reliever, but it is quite possible that Hendry actually sold high and bought low, here.

Question remains whether "bought low" will actually translate into any improvement for a player like Kendall, though. Can't be worse than what Bowen provided offensively, and pitchers seem to really like his game calling ability, so hopefully that can be a non-issue. Not good at throwing runners out, but nobody has been this year for the Cubs.

I think he sold high here as well. Alot of people criticize him for selling low, then they turn around and criticize him for selling high. If Kendall can have a decent 2nd half he'd be an enormous upgrade and also as a veteran, I'd rather have him coming up to bat over the likes of Hill or Soto in a crucial post season at bat.

How come the Cubs don't realize that Koyie Hill is compete and utter crap

:?:

Cubs pitchers would beg to differ.

He is an automatic out every time in the lineup. Right now the Cubs are getting by because the rest of the offense is picking up the slack, but as the season progresses that production is not acceptable.

I'm not disagreeing about his offense. All I'm doing is pointing out what I hear directly from the pitchers, including one Mr. Z.

I think this point is lost so often. Its fine to use statistical tools to evaluate players, however sometimes people get so completely lost in a statistical bubble that they completely ignore human behavour. Its fine to throw up some numbers that state that Michael Barrett had no negative impact on the Cubs, however the statistics aren't showing that HE WAS IN A FREAKING FISTFIGHT IN THE DUGOUT WITH OUR ACE PITCHER IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME !!! Hello !!!

If you want a rookie catcher behind the plate based on his AAA numbers, fine. That doesn't mean the pitching staff wants him here in the middle of a pennant chase. Guess who's opinion matters?

Pitchers in ST were complimentary with both Soto and Fox (oddly enough) on how they called games.

Sounds like they really loved Barrett.

When? I'm not talking about anything that was in print.

Well they have made the point to Bruce at least how much they loved the last few guys. Also you claim they liked how Fox called games, as opposed to Barrett?

If you can show me that a pitcher pitches worse to a catcher he doesn't like, great, you've got a case. Until then, I don't care what the pichers have to say about their catchers. They can blame them or praise them all they want, it comes down to their own abilities to pitch.

Is this a freaking joke? He has a .542 OPS, this fixes nothing, and unless the A's picked up a ton of money, all this does is hamstring us in the future.

Jesus christ why can't the Cubs just let an inexpensive young player fill a freaking role? God dammit.

the future? unless im mistaken he's a free agent after this season. I don't think he's a very good player anymore but this isnt the worst deal hes done. the money isnt an issue for the Cubs and its a buy low chance. there's a pretty damn good chance kendalls obp is .340+ the rest of the season. power? no but as long as hes not an auto out im happy.

There really are uninformed fans here...first thing A's and Pirates are basically paying for Kendall, Cubs getting $1M, second he is FA after this year, no risk. 3rd Bowen was simply a body and some knowledge regarding what SD knows on Hill...Blevins is not a real prospect of note, a chance average FB, change and curve.

That all said, what Kendall has is a CERA...best in baseball, hmmm that is not an offensive number for the fantasy heads, and he did have a good June at the plate, back at his usual numbers.

Is he Gaitti or Karras, possibly but you guys know it all...
