ya they said he would be with the team tommorrow so he clearly was ok with the trade. His deal expires at the end of the year so who really cares if he has a no trade clause.

I feel pretty indifferent about the deal. He's a big upgrade, at least IMO, over Hill and Bowen. But is he an upgrade at all over Soto? I can see Hendry's reasoning in adding Kendall as he might not want to have a rookie catcher be the #1 guy in the thick of a pennant race. And then of course, we all know what Hendry's history is of dealing prospects. Hopefully Blevins doesn't turn out to be good.

If Kendall can continue to hit .275, it will work out to be a good deal for us.

Kendall's contract ends at the end of the season, right?

right, and the pirates are paying 5.5 million of it this season, and since were only paying for half a year of him, withotu any cash that might be coming back to us, its essential kendall for 3.75 mil.

Just in case anyone was wondering and it hasn't been mentioned yet:

Jason Kendall c

6 years/$60M (2002-07)

$4M signing bonus (half deferred)

02:$6M, 03:$8M, 04:$8M, 05:$10M, 06:$11M, 07:$13M

Pittsburgh pays $5.5M of 2007 salary as part of 11/04 trade

full no-trade clause

$0.475M/year in bonuses (MVP, All Star, Silver Slugger)

1 year/$3.1M (2001)

agents: Jeff Borris, Dan Lozano, Beverly Hills Sports Council

ML service: 11.000

Pittsburgh picking up $5.5M makes this much easier to swallow.

last season

I was gonna bring this exact thing up.

I reserve judgment on the deal until Kendall plays a little. Don't know much about Blevins, but didn't really read a whole lot about him on this board in the past. From this thread, I'd have guessed he was one of out top prospects.

They don't need "great" production from the C spot, just better than what they had. And there's really no reason they can't keep Soto over Hill, although Hill is a lefty. But he wouldn't be the starter against righties anyway.

I read this whole thread and it seems 'much ado about nothing' so far.

This hasn't been brought up yet, but Kendall has a FULL NO-TRADE CLAUSE.

Jesus H. Christ do you realize what this means!?!?!

We won't be able to trade this guy in the 14 days between now and the trade deadline!!!!

Then I like the deal...maybe alot...even if he only puts up the awful putrid numbers he has so far its better offensively than what we've got from Hill/Bowen/Soto...if he can put up a solid OBP in the 2nd half I could really care less what his OPS or Slugging or ISODPDICRI is....if he gets on at a .340 pace it improves us about .100 points over what we were getting....and we gave up basically nothing....and are only spending a few more million, and thats only for this year....I think Hendry did a good job.

People need to look at who is being given up rather than the position.

People would've called Marmol nothing a year ago if he was included in a trade.

Young relievers have potential value espec. in an era of overspending and inconsistent FA relievers.

Look at the LH'ers out of the pen this year... Eyre, Ohman, and Cotts.

There's no guarantee he would provide production, which you can say for Kendall as well at this point,

yeah, but that begs the question, how does ravech even know to mention marshall?

The original reports were Marshall.

I hope he is just guessing, but I fear that Hendry would give Sean away to Beane. Jim shouldn't be allowed in the same room as Billy.

That's what I keep thinking. He's got 12 this year and has had at least 50 for quite a few years straight. The OBP should improve if nothing else.

We'll have to see how much money the Cubs lost in trading away a catcher that had a better chance of being productive than Kendall and a decent trade chip in a relief pitcher who any team would like to have considering even if he turns out to be good at the major league level, he'll never make much money.
