I'm going to bed now.

If I wake up in the morning and Hendry indeed traded Marshall for Kendall, I might very well fly back home just to find Hendry and beat him to a pulp.

Kendall is a terrific cather and calls a great game.

"He has hit .297 in his last 25 games, and batted .286 in Interleague Play this year. "

He has always had a better 2nd half. This is a great trade, a terrific rental player for a minor league relief pitcher. I can't see anything wrong with this deal at all.

I agree, hes not the big deal we are looking for but for what we gave up and the black hole in the lineup that the catchers have been its a low risk deal that could turn out to be a positive.

except that he's 33 and hitting like total ass this year. Plus he has no power or speed left.

He's only 33? Even better! I thought he was older.

And I don't know that speed is really important - at all - for a catcher, but Jason is 2nd among catchers in SB's.

I must have forgotten that career numbers mean absolutely nothing, my bad. He's having a down year so far, but for what we gave up, I'm OK with taking the chance on him.

I'd rather take a chance on Johnny Bench. His career numbers are better.

What the hell does this even mean?

It means that old catchers age very quickly, and Kendall's career numbers likely mean nothing.

"His second half career numbers are much better than his first. His on-base percentage is always high," Hendry said.

From the ESPN article. He may be a year or two late as Kendall's OBP is miserable this year, but at least Hendry acknowledged OBP. It's something, at least.

He acknowledged OBP, but doesn't know that a high OBP is good. I guess it's one at a time for Jim!

Speed isn't important usually for a C but it was for him earlier, but his injuries have made him a non-running threat.

Why didn't we just stick with Barrett? I know Barrett had his problems but Kendall is a shell of his former self and we gave away Jerry Blevins to get him. How is this supposed to be an upgrade from Barrett?

He has gotten very unlucky as I said, but right now hes another catcher who will put up a sub 700 OPS.

Newsflash... there are only 10 catchers in baseball with an OPS above 700.

Kendall: 80 out of 81 in VORP.

At least we didn't trade for Navarro.

This looks like a low risk high reward deal. I don't see how anyone can be that upset with it.

Well I tried to highlight a few of his stats on his career numbers and was more or less verbally stoned in here. So there are plenty of folks upset.

Ha ha, yeah. Maybe he's halfway there...?

Because we are Cub fans and prospects are more valuable than crack.

How many are there with an OPS below .550?

I can think of one (that doesnt play for us)

I'm convinced that it's Bowen/Blevin, because the alternative of Marshall would be unbelievably, inconceivably, galactically stupid. Hendry's not a good GM, but even he isn't that bad.

Sergio Mitre is waving at you. ;)

Touche.

i think this trade is hardly worth getting worked up about. losing a minor league arm and a DFA'd catcher....who cares?

My thoughts exactly.

Most of the players disliked Barrett. Barrett was a bad defensive catcher, couldn't hit well, and Z nearly killed him. The Cubs have been great since he left. It was a good move.

A.) Corellation or B.) causation?

(hint, the answer is A)
