This team will not win with this black hole at catcher. Fix it Hendry and not with Hank after his rehab start.

Relax. Barrett was a good hitting catcher and the pitchers had an ERA of over 5 with him as a catcher, while Blanco/Hill saw an ERA of around 2.00. Besides, they have been winning since they traded Barrett.

They have been winning in spite of the catchers terrible offense.

Didn't Hill throw one into center that kept that inning alive that turned into the 3 runs for the Pirates, too?

Hill's defense is also horrid. We traded away the worst catcher in the division for the worst in the world.

We didnt trade Barrett for hill, though.

But I agree. Barrett was having a bad year. But he was still hitting far better than Bowen and Hill combined.

And, yes, barrett's defense was pretty bad, but Hill and Bowen havent shown they are too much better. I'd wager that Barrett would have thrown out that baserunner today.

Actually, he wasnt. I can remember several times when he would whiff at a pitch in the strike zone that the batter didnt swing at. Barretts shorcomings have been obscured by a myriad of other problems though...that and he has always been given the benefit of the doubt by reporters since he has been a stand up guy. I think Barrett was a quality person but a liability as a catcher.

see Koyie Hill and Rob Bowen

Again, Ill defer to the Cubs ERA without Barrett vs when he caught.

Lol, whatever man. The pitchers have nothing to do with that do they? Whats happened to Hill in his crappy outings with Hill and Bowen recently? What about Marshalls? Marquis?

Youre right, they dont throw the pitches but its not like picher/catcher rapport has no value. Youre delusional if you think otherwise. Plus there are a lot of little things that when you watch the game you say, Barrett would have tried to make that throw, or would have missed that ball, etc.

4.5 back at the break is still fine.

That's what I was hoping for, I figured we could win both series and go 5-2, and hopefully the Brewers would split then lose a series and go 3-4. Looks like the Pirates took an extra game from each of us.

Losing two out of three to these guys without facing their two big league pitchers is a very cub like way to end the first half. We could be 2.5 back if we could just hit terrible lefties.

And if we knew how to hit the ball out of the yard.

Yeah if Ramirez and Soriano don't homer, we don't hit any.

If on June 1st you would have told me we would be within 4.5 of first in the division at the All Star break, I would have told you to lay down your crack pipe. So I guess what Im saying is Ill take it.

well, if the brewers lose, that's 4 games they've made up in two weeks. i think that's positive.

let's hope they come back after the break ready to play ball

Yeah, in a wierd way, losing isnt necessarily the worst thing. It reminds them that things dont come easy and hopefully its a reminder to do the little things that make winning baseball.

That maybe, but we could be 2.5 out.

Everything that needs to be fixed with the cubs showed up today. No power with runners on base, not enough RH hitting so we make another crappy lefty look like Cy Young, 0-0-0-0-0- from our pathetic hitting catchers. Total inability of Howry to do anything good and also the fact that we have a 22 man roster if you take away jones-izzy-eyre.

Agreed. A couple of things are concerning but it's pretty tough to complain considering how the last month has gone.

Is there a site that allows you to view the standings from a certain day?

Exactly. While the Brewers losing 3/4 to the Pirates is not great, at least they can say that they lost to Snell and Gorzelanny. Who did we lose to? Youman and Malholm
