well i'll take the road trip...considering the cubs were 8.5 games back a couple weeks ago and the idea of being out of first by just 5 was kinda stretchin it.

4.5 games back goin into the second half i'll take

We were talking about going 7-0 or 6-1 on this road trip...and we went 4-3. Looks like the typical Cubs that we know and hate are back.

Wow. Tough crowd.

Can't really get too excited about a 4-3 trip against the likes of the Nationals and the Pirates.

We picked up 2 games on Milwaukee on the trip, and I'm excited about that.

While I agree we should have won at least 5 of 7 games this trip...I'm happy with where we are at.

If I would have told you on May 30th that "Hey guys, we're going to be a game above .500, 4.5 games back of the Brewers in the division, and 4 games back of LA for the Wildcard...you probably would have been pretty happy.

We just had a stretch of great baseball despite our best hitter playing like an injured little leaguer. I'm pumped.

On the other side, the Pirates went 5-2 against the Cubs and Brewers. Perhaps they will make a second half run too.

I'm not sure what typical Cubs means... Predicting 7-0 or 6-1 was unrealistic. I was hoping for 5-2 but, all things considered, I'll take a 4-3 road trip.

People will bemoan losing to Maholm and Youman but they both have pitched decently. Maholm is 4-0 in his career against the Cubs so it's not necessarily a flaw of this 2007 team that they haven't been able to get to him. Also, we all made fun of Shane Youman but give him credit as well, he shut both the Cubs and Brewers down in his first two starts of the year...

For all the people that say "at least the Brewers lost to Snell and Gorzelanny...," don't forget that Youman also beat them and they lost to Simontacchi and Redding in WSH (both of whom lost to the Cubs).

The Brewers went 3-7 on their 10 game road trip (losing 2 of 3 to the Cubs, 3 of 4 to the Pirates, and 2 of 3 to the Nationals).

The Cubs are 6-4 during the same time period. Today's series loss is disappointing but the Cubs aren't playing poorly overall.

Just to add to this - Mahalom pitched decently in the opener against the Brewers, but Kuwata melted down in his inning of relief in that game.

Great point Jake. Without that meltdown, there was a real possibility of a Pirate sweep of the Brewers.

There's no doubt that the Pirates have been the hottest team in the division over the past 10 days.
