This team will not win with this black hole at catcher. Fix it Hendry and not with Hank after his rehab start.

Relax. Barrett was a good hitting catcher and the pitchers had an ERA of over 5 with him as a catcher, while Blanco/Hill saw an ERA of around 2.00. Besides, they have been winning since they traded Barrett.

They have been winning in spite of the catchers terrible offense.

Didn't Hill throw one into center that kept that inning alive that turned into the 3 runs for the Pirates, too?

Hill's defense is also horrid. We traded away the worst catcher in the division for the worst in the world.

Is there a pitch break down by inning Fred?

I'm not Fred, but I've got Z with 21, 20, 25, 12, 16, 16

Thank you Not Fred  . I was just curious about A) the wind up change and B) How long a lash he has for this innning.

I went to the TV booth and asked Brenly. He said he just thinks Z was not in sync in the windup and that the stretch has allowed him to quick-pitch and vary his times to the plate.

Sounds logical. Thanks again Bruce. Whatever the reason, it sure saved his pitch count.

Thats because defense/pitching is more important for a catcher. You also havent had the bullpen meltdowns, boneheaded throws, and passed balls you had with Barrett. When you think about it, catchers call pitches, can deny runners from moving into scoring position by throwing out runners and plus they guard the most important base on the field. It takes a lot of offense from a catcher to outweigh all of that.

We didnt trade Barrett for hill, though.

But I agree. Barrett was having a bad year. But he was still hitting far better than Bowen and Hill combined.

And, yes, barrett's defense was pretty bad, but Hill and Bowen havent shown they are too much better. I'd wager that Barrett would have thrown out that baserunner today.

No it doesnt. Hill has been mediocre defensively, and Bowen and Hill are abysmal offensively.

You're greatly exaggerating the importance of catcher defense, and also greatly exaggerating Barrett's shortcomings.
