I don't get to see many games, but the kid has really been dominating. The one time I did get to see him throw, he didn't look too sharp, but you could definitely see signs of great stuff.

What's everyone's opinion on him? Future closer? Back to the rotation at some point? He's been lights out this year...

Thanks in advance!

I think he's the closer right now.

I'm not convinced Lou's giving it back to Demp when he comes back, or if he should.

Marmol has raised his game about 5 notches this year.

Given what we've seen this season, I think it's a good bet Marmol will be the closer eventually anyway. If someone will take Dempster's whole salary, we should deal him.

Closer this year or next, he has injected life into the bullpen and helped to setup the rest of the guys. He has been awesome so far.

The word on the radio is that Dempster won't get his job back. I can't disagree. Marmol is terrific.

Didn't like the arm/hand waggle at the end of the game today. But I loved the results. He should have had 6 up, 6 down in his two innings of work.

The kid shows great promise! http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_headbanger.gif

That was one thing that really standed out. I love when players show their emotions on the field. As long as they can cantrol it.

Actually, Lou named Howry the closer for now before the Brewers series. Since it was a 4 run game, Marmol was allowed to go another inning and close it out. If the reports are right though, Howry will be coming in during save situations the next week.

I see no reason to make him the closer now. His stuff looks great, but I'd much rather have him where he can be used in potentially more dangerous spots in the 6th-8th innings, especially since he can go 2. It's not like we need to replace Dempster, nor has he played himself out of the spot. I think right now, Marmol makes the 'pen stronger by being available earlier.

My thoughts exactly...

He looks great. I think the Cubs will add someone before the deadline as well making it a very strong pen.

I'm actually close to banking on Gagne being a Cub.

Marmol has looked great and comes in and just throws gas. Would be a good closer if gaven the opportunity I think. But like others have said, I think Gagne ends up being a Cub.

Young, immature as a pitcher, has Z enthusiasm I can't wait until he mature because if this is just half the stuff he can develop in his short pitching career then what will he do in the next three years?

I agree with what most have said. Rather have Marmol in the 6th-8th inning than closer. Wuertz deserves a shot to close first. Marmol does have KRod potential. And he threw strikes at will today. He missed w/ a slider to Bill Hall then threw 3 straight 96mph fastball all in literally the exact same spot on the outside corner and Hall missed all 3.

Early returns are showing that a Marmol, Wuertz, Guzman, Petrick led pen could be excellent. Throw in Ohman and possibly Rapada and that's a homegrown pen that could be top 1/3 in the NL in 2008. Unfortunately, Eyre, Dempster and Howry are all under contract for next year.

Does anyone else think he has a herky-jerk delivery? He can throw the ball hard with movement and has a great off-speed pitch. But he doesn't look very fluid.

I think Eyre is the only one that's "unfortunate" there.
