Season's over. I can't wait to start cheering for some new players in 2009 when Hendry gone and some of the young talent from the firesale are here.

 there will never be a fire sale, and if there were they wouldn't get good players back.

This loss is definitely on the offense. How many times can a team not score with runners in scoring position, especially with no outs? :wall:

Yea the fact that Lilly gave up 5 early runs definatly should be overlooked. The offense had chances, and didnt but they still came back. Overcoming a 5 run deficit is not an easy thing to do, and we better get used to it because what we have seen the last 2 nights out of Lilly and Marquis are the real Lilly and Marquis. Its going to be brutal watching them pitch in 95 degree heat, with the wind blowing straight out.

Doh. Forgot about Lilly craptacular performance. Yeah, it should be fun watching the real Lilly and Marquis pitch the rest of the year. :puke:

how can you NOT complain about howry's play? that was horrible...the kind of thing that got barrett run out of town.

thinking that howry's play was not that big a deal is the type of thinking that has led to hendry remaining the GM and 40,000 people paying money to watch the cubs lose every day.

No, Barrett inexplicably threw the ball behind the runner. To imitate Barrett, Howry would have had to turn (right after catching the ball) and throw the ball behind the runner without even running at the runner. Barrett's play was downright dumb and was a play that a little leaguer would make. Howry got unlucky that the tag missed Lofton by a couple inches.

Unlucky =/= bad.

Because it wasn't unlucky. There never should have been a threat of missing it by inches.

Just saw the replay on SportsCenter and, had Izturis actually been right in the baseline instead of two feet out of it, he would have been able to make the tag on Lofton.

how the hell was it unlucky? once lofton got between howry and second base, he should have thrown it. howry held it for a pretty long period of time, allowing lofton to get back. it wasn't luck, it was a stupid, stupid play that cost the cubs the game. had barrett done it, there'd be 10 threads about it.

Izzy was in the correct position. Howry just made a mental mistake.

Even when I'm pessimistic I'm optimistic.

Then go start a thread about how much you hate Howry and how you wish you could have Barrett's babies - which is apparently what you want to do. Comparing what Howry did to what Barrett did isn't fair to Howry. Barrett did something you are taught not to do in freaking little league. Howry did the fundamentally correct baseball play and the tag missed by a couple inches. That's unlucky.

Since when is making the runner go back to the bag incorrect? That's what you're taught to do. Had Izzy been in the baseline (where he should have been) he would have been able to tag Lofton out.

howry also did something you are taught not to do in freaking little league.

he did NOT do the fundamentally correct baseball play. he started off doing the fundamentally correct baseball play, but he didn't see it through. if he had, the guy would have been out.

so because he did ONE part of it correctly, it's not a bad play? is that what we've come to expect from this team?

well, he totally botched the play and likely cost the cubs the game, but, boy did he ever do the first step right! way to correctly run at the runner and then crap your pants...great job.

Ok, so what happened?

lofton was at 2nd with one out. comebacker to howry, who correctly ran at lofton. as he got real close to him, lofton started doing the juking thing and darted back toward second. howry waited too long to throw back to second, and lofton slid back in safely. plus, i think howry's throw may have been a little off line.

7 IP 6 hits 1 BB and 10k's. I'm not quite sure that's craptacular, but I didn't get to see the game. Was he just unlucky?

No he once again gave up the long ball, which is what we get to see for the next 4 years from him. This signing is going to bite us in the ass. He is going to be worthless come summer in Chicago.

After the 3rd inning he was good, but spotting the other team 5 runs thru 3 innings is a craptacular performance.
