Seitzer was not a flop. He was no HOF, but he had a long fairly productive career.

He was an overall disappointment based on expectations. But, yes he did play for around ten years or so. But, I'm biased because I have a personal issue.

How could guys that made it to the majors be considered flops, including ROYs?

There are plenty of high 1st rounders who never made it to the majors w/out getting injured who could be considered busts.

Maybe not a flop, but just not meeting overall expectations. Someone such as Corey Patterson comes to mind. I strictly speaking from fan expectations and how they produce(d).

I recall Harry hyping a player named Tony Woods as a third base candidate during Spring Training telecasts one year (this was when Gary Woods was also on the team, before the days of Gary Scott). I don't think Woods ever played in the majors.

but 89 was a fun year (until that whole ending bit against the Giants, that is)

1984 was the year that still haunts me personally - that was the team of destiny with some veterans having career years at the end of their playing days and a mix of young exciting players. I still can't believe it wasn't the Cubs vs. Tigers in the 84 WS.

earlier this year i was in caesar's palace. i was with a date walking around the shops at the forum and the sports store there had steve garvey signing autographs just inside the front door at a table. the employee standing in front of the store trying to draw people in came up to me and my date and said "would you like an autograph by steve garvey?" to which i replied with my lips pursed like josey wales, "f*k no i don't want an autograph by that piece of s*t." garvey just stared at me from inside and said "cubs fan?" with a grin, and i said "f*ing right". he just laughed. even steve garvey knows how big of a hoax '84 was for the dirty padres.

Grant Hill

Noway. When Hill was healthy hes was pretty damn good, and since coming back this time from the injury hes still above average.

Jeffery Hammonds. He was supposedly being billed as the next Griffey Jr and ended up with a pretty average career.

Teammate of Ben McDonald, the other Orioles future superstar of the day.

The guy that jumped in my mind was the Corey Patterson of my youth. All of the Cubs problems would be solved when he was ready for the bigs. Of course, I am referring to the immortal Karl Pagel (20th pick of 1976 draft).

Could Lou Brock be considered?

Matt Bush (1st overall pick of the Padres a few years back, converted to pitcher, still in the minors)
