Alright...I've been discussing this issue on another forum. Does Craig Biggio make it into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot? Most people say that his 3,000 hits will make him an automatic first-ballot inductee. Bear in mind these people are mostly from the Houston area so in my mind they were pretty biased. That's why I decided to bring it here to see what opinions were outside the state of TX.

So, is Biggio a first-ballot HoFer?

I say no...

1) He played for a small market team

2) He struggled mightily in post-season play

3) HoF voters are pretty strict.

take away the battle armor he wears on his elbow (which forces him to step away from the plate and not get hit so many times) and I think his hits go way down.

no to first ballot.

Biggio's numbers during his prime were sick. 3,000 hits will make anyone a first ballot HOF'er unless he's been caught using roids. Biggio will go in.

I also hate the "Small-Market Team" argument. Whether or not you play for a small-market team should not determine whether or not your skills were good enough to make it ot the HOF.

I do to...but that's what happens in a sports world dominated by ESPN.

EASY

3,000 hits, 400+ stolen bases, 280+ homers, 1800+ runs

Then look at the intangibles.

- He played for ONE team his entire career.

- Played 3 different positions

- 7 time all-star

- 4 gold gloves

I dunno...Biggio was an average player for about half of his career, and well below average during his "adventures in centerfield" portion of his career. I'm sure he'll get in, and I would vote for him on the first ballot, but most sportswriters, and especially HOF voters, are idiots who won't vote for him the first time but will eventually. I mean, Mariotti didn't even vote for Ryno on the first ballot, you think he'll vote for Biggio?

That's a team stat though.

Doesn't matter to HOF voters.

If he can hit 16 more HR's in addition to his 3,000 hits he will be only the 2nd player in MLB history with 300HR's, 3,000 hits, & 300 SB's. The other is Mays. He should be a first ballot HOF.

Barry Bonds has a .245 career postseason batting average and no world championships. Something tells me he'll eventually get in there
