Lilly has really been average after his great start....which I guess is what we really expected out of him

His WHIP is still outstanding though.

He has been better than average. That's why.

15 walks through 70+ IP isn't average.

So I guess walks is the only way to judge if a pitcher is average or not

no, but

shows he has been better than average for 8/11 starts and on his cumulative year stats.

His BAA is also great. His WHIP is great, BB/9 very nice, K/9 spiffy, and he doesn't punch out teammates. I like 2007 Lilly very much.

I wasnt saying one way or the other, but to say just because he had only walked 15 people he wasnt average seemed pretty silly to me.

i would agree the walk reference alone wouldn't prove much to his above averageness this year, but his low walk total has led to some other solid numbers. i guess we were supposed to infer that because he hasn't walked anyone, the rest of his numbers are also above average.

why do opposing pitchers get 3-0 charity strikes like clockwork?

It's not called "walking". It's called "hitting".

iirc, technically it's a plate appearance.
