I'd really like to trade him for something and meet up in the FA market after tthe year.

I don't think you let Z feed what its like to be on another team. If you want him, then you'll have to pay him in FA. All he knows is the cubs, and I'm sure on some level he likes that comfort. If you let him go to a playoff team for a run, he'll want that.

that's probably true for almost any player who has only known one organization. Considering Z's emotions and competitive nature, he'd be a goner for sure, no doubt about it.

Thats awesome.

So here's the logic: If we tried to trade Z and resign him, it wouldn't work. After playing for a real organization, there's no way he'd come back to the Cubs.

I just love rooting for this team.

What a fitting comeuppance for Boras that would be. Beaten to an inch of his life by his own maniacal client.

Z fired Boras as his representation a year ago.

I think the only reason he's saying he really wants to stay here is because he's still here. I think that as soon as he's traded, he loses any sort of hometown feeling for the Cubs and would go directly to the highest bidder, likely the Mets.

I definitely agree. Zambrano is likely trying to earn the love of his teammates back after acting like a complete ass and buffoon on Friday. One way to do that is to reiterate how much he likes it in Chicago and wants to be a Cub, yada, yada, yada.

My guess is the same as yours. As soon as he has a different set of teammates, all that is out the window.

Yup. It would be different if Z actually pitched well, got burned by a defensive miscue or two and got the loss in a 2-1 or 3-2 game. But he probably looked at his stats the next day (or later that day for that matter) and realized that he downright sucked that day and he was to blame for his crappy performance not his teammates.

Speaking of the Mets, if the Cubs were to trade Zambrano to the Mets by the trading deadline, what would be considered a fair deal?

Milledge, Pelfrey and Heilman.

I'd take Reyes. :D

I'm sure this has been mentioned ad nauseum some where...but would anyone really be against trading Z for solid prospects this year at the deadline with the assumption that we would use that $$ to assist in landing A-Rod for short when he opts out next year? Sure...the rotation would be weakened...but I think Marshall, Hill, Lilly, Marquis et al could still put up solid numbers...especially with that offense.

The Mets could have had Zito for Milledge last year, and didn't do it. I doubt they'd do that deal for Z, especially with him struggling this much.

Milledge's stock is a lot lower this year than last, and Minaya didn't have the man crush he has on Zito that he has on Zambrano.

Plus, after the way the Mets lost in the NLCS, there's more pressure on that team to win this season.

Z's price is dropping with each terrible outing, and with each episode where he acts like a 2 year old.

True, but there's going to be a dearth of starting pitchers available at the deadline which could inflate the price someone is willing to pay.

Minaya must have something for the last name 'Zambrano'

Victor was acquired by Jim Duquette, before Omar was hired.

That was a terrific trade for the Mets.
