I scored a sweet single. Right behind first base in UD box in row 1. no tickets.com fees. Meeting up with some hopefully future potential employers, nice day.

THEN BULLS TONIGHT!

This day could be awesome.

what are the odds we see the same lineup back to back with another LHP on the mound? probably not good as I'm guessing Blanco is likely to start this one.

Yeah, it would be shocking to me if Blanco didn't start this game:

day game after night game

Barrett caught 15 innings 2 nights ago

left-hander on the mound for the opposition

Blanco is 2-5 against this pitcher

Z is on the mound

All the factors say a Blanco start is coming. My guess is that the rest of the lineup will be the same, but there could be 1 or 2 other small changes.

Seems to me it would've made more sense to sit Barrett yesterday.

Give him his offday after the 15 inning game, rather than the day after a night game.

Maybe the Z factor scotched that thought.

And Lou has said he sets the lineup for the entire series before the series begins. Not sure I agree with this approach, but it is what it is.

My first instinct would be to think he'd sit Jones, since he's really cooled down after that brief hot streak, and already ranks third on the team in most playing time. And of course since he can't hit lefties at all, and never has. But when you think about how much stock Lou puts into coddling his veterans' egos and the thought of showing faith in Jones by putting him right back out there, I begin to doubt that idea. But it would be smart to give Felix "I've got 6 at bats in the past 7 days" Pie a start before he rots any further, at least taking advantage of his clear defensive edge over Jones.

I'd rather not see Pie and Blanco in the lineup together against a LHP, but it's certainly a possibility. Pie can't do much worse than Jones against a lefty, I guess.

The only argument against playing Pie is that he can't hit. However, Jones can't hit lefties. So, all things being equal offensively, I'd just as soon prefer the significant defensive upgrade.

If Pie is going to be on the 25 man, he needs ABs. You may be right, he may not hit well today, but it could be a short term los lang term gain sort of thing.

I have a feeling we are going to see Izturis at SS and DeRossa in RF today. I hope I am wrong.

Izturis, how sad is it that the at bat vs Farnsworth (03, I think) is probably the offensive highlight of his career?

Maybe, but I would be surprised-the team has faced 4 left-handers this year, and Izturis hasn't started at SS against any of them.

i'd think that the, what, 9 LOB for Jones last night should see him benched

I'd like to see him benched because he can't hit lefties. But I don't like using the 9 LOB yesterday as the reason. That kind of thing happens. And you really can't kill Jones for that. His GM and manager should never put him in a position to do such a thing in the first place, even if Jones feels he should start everyday. You're talking about a guy who, over the course of his career, makes an out 72.5% of the time he faces a lefty. Making 4-5 outs in a row against a LHP is really nothing.

his approach was horrible in the at-bats last night though. It wasn't bad luck or making contact on pitcher's pitches. He was swinging at garbage and showing zero patience

I could be wrong, but I think you're thinking of Alex Cora.

And I think it was against Clement in 04.

But again, I could be completely wrong. My memory on that one is foggy.

What keeps coming to mind with Farnsworth was the low and away slider (3-2?) that Julio Franco crushed to right center after a bunch of fouls.

I think you're right, boy, was I off on that one, therefore, Izturis hasn't any offensive highlight to hang his hat on.

Don't have to worry.

Pagan got called up, Pie down to Iowa.

Anytime that Theriot is starting I'm a happy camper.
