The only thing I always wonder about is if it drives away some of the people that this board would like to have as members because it appears so much like talk radio trade proposals. While they are sarcastic, someone who hasn't read the board for a long time might not know that, especially when they see it multiple times in different threads.

very good point

I was thinking that too. Then I realized anyone who can't pick up the sarcasm in a Jacque Jones and Cesar Izturis for ARod trade, is a moron and I don't care if they are apart of NSBB. Now if you wanna talk about the joke being overused, I can get on board with that.

On sports talk radio though and several message boards I've seen, people propose trades like that all the time-and they are completely serious.

This board isn't exactly immune from that sort of thing http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=1296556#1296556

True, maybe he should have said Ronny Cedeno and then they wouldnt' leave. That way they would see how well we know baseball and stick around.

So what does everyone think on the value that we can get back from Jones?

And if I had to guess, I'd assume the White Sox would be at the forefront of the Jones "sweepstakes."

I'm not opposed to letting Pie have one more year in AAA and let Jones handle CF. Pie obviously needs some more work and I don't want him losing confidence at the plate because he was rushed. That said, if you can find someone to take on all of Jones's contract AND you can get a decent prospect back, then do it.

The Cubs could easily afford to have Pie play everyday and bat 8th, as long as Izturis is not in the lineup. As far as tradeability, Jones is really the only OF that Hendry could move ATM. Floyd is untradeable until June, and Murton has too much upside to let go cheap.

Brian Anderson?

I wouldn't. Our problem is too many outfielders. Trading one for another would be kind of pointless. We need some infield help off the bench so we can get rid of the black hole that is Iz-deno.

I think Jones has played well, but Pie will be on the team permanently sooner or later so he's likely to be moved. Truthfully Floyd makes more sense with Jones ability to play CF.

That being said I've heard rumors with the Twins OF injuries Jones might interest them. With their pitching woes in the latter part of the rotation they might be interested in Wade Miller as part of a package for some minor league prospects, IMO

If we could get anything for Wade Miller I'd be happy. Maybe we should try offering him to the Yanks. All their starting pitchers are hurt. All my Yankee friends are complaining about it and I respond with "Now you know how I felt the last few years."

That'd be a real nice deal. I've been on that bandwagon for weeks.

And Jones really does make a lot of sense for the CWS, and doubly so now that they've reached the point of demoting Anderson to AAA.

On our side, let Anderson and Pie platoon in CF, with Pie getting 60-75% of the starts, then see what you can get for Anderson at the Winter Meetings once Pie's ready for fulltime duty in 2008. Murton and Floyd share RF. Problem(s) solved.

But Anderson would commend more value for a better player in the future.

I'd be on board with it. At the very worst, at least he gives you a defensive replacement in the later innings.

At this point I would prefer to keep Jones in CF and have Pie get sent back to AAA. Either that or Murton needs to go to AAA because there's no reason to have both of them sitting on the bench as much or more than their playing. At least at AAA one of them (preferably Pie because he's younger) would play all the time.

Also, at the end of the column,

Finally, Jay Leno reported this week: "Statistics show that in a lifetime, the average person sheds 120 pints of tears. Double that if you're a Cubs fan."

I won't miss that guy when Conan takes over next year.

He's right, though.

My favorite Leno Cubs joke is "Tiger Woods had a long layover in Chicago today. While he was waiting, he beat the Cubs 1-0."

Do we have enough outfielders for the future though? Also what middle infielder are we going to get who would be an upgrade over iz-deno.?

If not, they are very easy to find. But the Cubs have Soriano for 8 years. They have Pie and Murton. They have Floyd this year, and possibly next. They've got Colvin in the minors as well.

The best thing for this current team is probably keeping Jones in center, with Floyd and Murton splitting time in right (and Pie in the minors). But I won't complain if they make a decent trade of Jones and keep Pie in center.

In your mind, what would be a decent trade?

Ideally he's packaged with other things for a better player. But that's unlikely. I guess, in general terms I would say a decent prospect. Not necessarily somebody with a ton of upside, but a guy who could contribute in the next couple years, sort of like what Matt Murton was when the Cubs got him.
