Jones has started to hit lately, and he's shown suprising CF ability -- not great mind you, but he doesn't look lost out there and seems to be getting a good jump on the ball.

Love the kid Pie, but I think he needs more seasoning.

I think this would be a grave mistake. I rather like Soriano/Jones/Murton in the OF, with Pie preferrably heading back to the minors where he can get more ABs and be called up if an injury happens. It's not an ideal outfield, but I see it as our best option with the glut of OF we currently have.

Floyd will have to come off the bench, he's too injury prone. Surely Lou has now figured that out.

Agreed. The only thing worse than having Pie suck at the MLB level is to have him not play at the MLB level. I would like to see him sent back down at this point.

As long as Jones is handling CF well, I'd keep him. He's better with the bat than Pie.

Agreed, but Jones' value may never be higher than it is now and Pie can only get better, IMO, by playing every day. Its not like staying up here would mean be exposed to Dusty, Sarge and Clines.

I would agree with this, but call me crazy I think our OF is starting to work with Sori/JJ/Murt. We're just getting on a roll now, I don't want to mess with things.

Pie's not going anywhere. Why not send him down to get some AB's? He can be back from Iowa in one day, ready to go.

i have no problem with keeping jones, he is improving in the field and i'm liking his bat lately. and in my opinion, i really liked murton, and i know he isnt getting enough playing time but i dont see him as a good everyday player. i think he is expendable

you better run while you have the chance, as the pro-murton freaks are sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches

I would just say that Murton has shown enough to be every bit the everyday player Jones is, and probably better. There's really no justification for your claim, other than the fact that Lou isn't using him as an everyday player. Unfortunately that's the type of tag that can stick on a guy for his career.

I don't forsee much of a drop off if Jones were traded and Murt got his ABs. This is another reason to trade Jones while he is hot and has value.

Murton won't be taking Jones's AB's though-Pie will. Jones hasn't started in RF since Soriano switched to LF (I may be wrong and he's done it once, but I think it's not at all).

Couldn't agree more. Murton has proven to be a better hitter than Jones minus a little HR power. He seems to be just as good of a defender, too. The only difference is he is lacking the experience at and possibly the speed to play CF as well as Jones can. I think that last point is why Jones is being played more than Murton right now, not because he is that much better.

We already have a RH dominated lineup. We are not going to trade Jones to make room for another righty. Right or wrong, that's the way this organization thinks.

I still think Murton will be a star one day. The kid is 25 and has hit .300 from the time he got here. That doesn't happen too often. His natural approach at the plate is fantastic, and I have a feeling the power will come. A lot of guys with his skill set add power around age 26-27. I could easily see some .330/.420/.500 years down the road.

That said, the cubs won't use him this year OR in the future unless we add a big LH bat in the infield. 1st, 3rd and C are covered, so we'd have to add a big LH SS or 2B, and I'm at a loss for who that could be.

Murton should get some playing time in the next 3 days because the Pirates are starting 2 lefties. Here's hoping Murton takes advantage of this opportunity to earn more playing time.

USS Mariner thinks that a Jacque Jones for Sean Rodriguez (Career stats 2007 stats) works well for both teams. While Rodriguez isn't an immediate addition to the big league club, I'm inclined to agree with him.

Sweet name. The first half anyway.

So far this year he's got a .279 BA with a .405 OBP and an 866 OPS. Sounds like a decent hitter, thought USS Mariner says his defense is questionable.

I give this trade no percent chance of happening, but we'll see.

Yeah, in BA's handbook they list him as a 2B, and say his big body will probably get him moved off of SS. Hopefully he would become a better version of DeRosa.
