Much better so far than I had expected -- hope he can keep it up.

I've read a lot about his 3-year cycle with a new team and am not sure how much stock to put into it.

Has Marquis ever been this good before?

EDIT: I mean, even in his supposed "good" years his peripheral stats weren't that good. I wonder how fluky this is.

as long as he can keep the ball down, but still in the zone, he can be effective. larry must have seen something that he knew he could fix.

He just needed a change of scenery, a new pitching coach and to play in front of more knowledgeable and supportive fans.

Sounds good to me...

I gotta say, crow tastes pretty darn good.

We're a few months into a contract that lasts a few years. I'm not eating anything until we're a little further down this path.

He seems to have more of a pause at the top of his delivery ala Matsuzaka than I remember.

interesting. i'll have to look for that.

I don't remember what his motion used to look like. But I zoomed through his outing last night on the DVR, and definitely noticed a bit of a pause. Maybe that's a gimmick that is fooling hitters now and won't last, but regardless of what it is, he's doing much better than I had thought possible. I thought he'd be a "quality start" pitcher at his best, ie 6 ip 3 er outings. I definitely wasn't expecting 0 or 1 run in 4 of 6 outings.

Absolutely. But I'd be more than happy to start looking for recipes.

He's been amazing. Looks like Larry might have been on to something.

Are you suggesting that Larry may have found and fixed something the great Dave Duncan and Cards coaching staff didn't find or fix? Isn't that against the law or impossibility?

Here's the best part for me. He's been getting better peripherally.

First 3 Starts: 9/10 K/BB, 28/17 GO/FO, 1.23 WHIP, 17 IP

Last 3 Starts: 10/3 K/BB, 36/22 GO/FO, 0.88 WHIP, 21.2 IP

His improvement is better than I thought.

Huh? I'm saying I've been wrong so far.

As for Theriot, I wanted him starting, out of all Cubs SS options. What I've said about him is that I think the odds aren't in his favor to be an everyday guy, all season long.

Don't knock too hard... he's already got the tendinitis in the shoulder, don't want to add to that!
