that is all

Yeah, because after all, he did so much to help us win today.

This team is filled with losers.

Well in the first he acted like he hit a homer before flying out to the warning track.

At least he was patient and hit the ball hard like he always does

I understand he shouldn't have been in LF for that play but it ended up not costing us

He overslid the base. He's out. The walk doesn't matter.

is the ruling that he was "trying to advance to third"?

Why does that matter. He touched second and came off. As soon as he touched second his "free pass" was over.

I think something we can all agree on is that Ronny Cedeno is a crappy baserunner. And a moron.

I'll take you one step further. Ronny Cedeno is a crappy baseball player, and has no business in the major leagues.

I'm sure he's a great kid. But he's the Sanjaya of Cubbie-dom. He needs to be gone. You've got Angel Guzman at AAA and this guy is in the majors, for Christ's sake.

Rule 6.08

...If, in advancing, the base runner thinks there is a play and he slides past the base before or after touching it he may be put out by the fielder tagging him. If he fails to touch the base to which he is entitled and attempts to advance beyond that base he may be put out by tagging him or the base he missed....

This team makes me sick. How hard is it to score runs against Braden Looper. My god. The 7th inning was when they really blew it. How hard is it to put the bat on the ball? This team sucks.

Lou is rapidly descending the ranks of bad managers.

Ronny is terrible at nearly every facet of the offensive game.

The Cubs are the worst team money can buy.

This team is worse than last year's after a 300 million dollar makeover.

never seen that before.

Ive never seen it either, I guess now they know though lol

Doesnt really matter I have my doubts as to wether they would have done anything anyway. This teams offense sucks. I gotta think that the runner at 1st over runs the base on a play like that hundreds of times during a season, but no one has ever tried to get an out on a play like that. Thats mind boggling.

If he walks, isn't a dead ball situation?

Hmmm, I can't see the game but surely on a walk it's a dead ball situation.

no it's not.

Why not?

and since it didn't cost us it's almost like he didn't do a totally horrible job

We also got the short end of the call at first base on the derosa play. Although he never touched first. All and all a pretty crap job by the officials of taking control of the game.

6.08

The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when --

(a) Four “balls” have been called by the umpire;

Rule 6.08(a) Comment: A batter who is entitled to first base because of a base on balls must go to first base and touch the base before other base runners are forced to advance. This applies when bases are full and applies when a substitute runner is put into the game.

If, in advancing, the base runner thinks there is a play and he slides past the base before or after touching it he may be put out by the fielder tagging him. If he fails to touch the base to which he is entitled and attempts to advance beyond that base he may be put out by tagging him or the base he missed.

I think that explains what happened, if I'm reading it correctly.

It makes sense if you think about it. On a walk the runner on 1st should be able to advance to 2nd at his leisure because he is entitled to advance one base. He is NOT entitled to advance 2 bases though, so if he goes beyond 2nd logically he should be fair game to be tagged out.
