1. No Zaun.

2. Ohman still has value because of his very good 2005 and solid 2006 so if the Cubs are going to trade him, they better not get trash in return.

3. I would prefer to wait a bit to trade Jones to make sure Pie really is ready to play at the ML level. I would love it if he was but it's too early to tell right now.

I don't put much validity in this scenario. What GM in their right mind is going to carry 3 catchers on th 25 man, and then platoon one of them in left field when you already have about 5 left fielders on the team already. Just doesn't make any sense.

Cincy has 3 catchers. I remember hearing their announcers bitching about it on XM.

Well, Cincy doesn't count, because of the bolded part.

First it is ironic that there are probably three teams scouting Jones and possibly more this weekend.

Jones is playing LF for two reasons, one to show the league how he is defensively there and two to give Murton some rep's there as the Cubs extend ST in the OF.

To those, the Blue Jays are actually not expecting their former LF'er who is 30 out for the year by going under the knife. July is rosy. Zaun is available because they want to bring up Thigpen a nice young catcher. They are also out of relievers. Although I am unsure what else the Blue Jays have to offer.

But more interesting are teams like SD that had scouts in as they look at getting out of the Sledge LF'er, or Phila or KC (getting out of R Sanders) or Baltimore or Seattle.

In any case the rumor started out from an old friend in the Toronto paper.

I don't see a fit. I can't see Hendry dealing Jones this early in the season for prospects knowing Floyds injury history. If Wilken is going to package Ohman with Jones and he's going after prospects I want him going after guys he knows well which is what is going to happen since he put togther the Jays farm.

Adam Lind>>Jacque Jones

BUT they screwed with him last year and acquired Frank in the offseason, so maybe J.P. isn't that high on him.

I believe Jones is being scouted I just don't see the addition of a 3rd catcher and Barrett in LF.

Todd Hundley

Joe Girardi

Robert Machado

...maybe one day we can forget...

Edit: not, of course, that MacPhail was in his right mind...

Only the Cubs would be dumb enough....So it won't work... Just mark the box that reads "DFA" for Jones and Ohman and Eyre...

Where exactly did you hear this rumor? It's interesting

More importantly, what team in the world, let alone the Major Leagues, would be dumb enough to want to acquire Jones and Ohman?

I think if anyone gets moved here it's Murton. It's obvious that Lou doesn't like Soriano + Murton in the outfield against RH pitchers, as it leaves him just one lefty plus Izturis in the lineup.

This is the reason we haven't seen much of Murton until Soriano went down, IMO.

It's an unfortunate situation, but I really don't see the cubs giving up Jones or Floyd unless they are sure Pie is ready, and I don't see a way for Murton to get many AB's against RHP with Soriano on the team.

My guess is we see Matt traded for a LH bench player and a prospect by May 31st.

Wouldn't the Cubs trade for a SS before C? I don't know why they would need a 3rd C, it doesn't make much sense.

I don't know much about the teams that were stated as far as their farm systems, but I would look SS not C.

i very much doubt that will happen. hendry likes murton too much imo and since he is the one that makes those decisions i dont think there is any way he will be traded.

if they can get aybar from the laa's for jones, perhaps they can also trade izturis & blanco, send cedeno to iowa and bring up fontenot & hill. i would also like to see them dump eyre and bring up cherry at some point along with putting guzman in the 5 spot.
