Yea im guessing he's doing this because Izzy has been doing pretty good and can bat lefty against Sheets and so Murton can get his rythm back at the bottom of the lineup.

i wish i had the stats in front of me, but izturis seems to be one of the most patient hitters(or seeing the most pitches per at bat) in the lineup thus far. granted it's only been 4 games, but if he can do what he has been doing, i don't know why anyone would complain.

As much as I don't like Izturis in the 2 hole, I wouldn't like Izturis and Blanco back-to-back either. Having Murton towards the bottom will ensure more RBI chances for Z. :D

If a guy is having success in a particular spot in the line up, why deviate away from it? Izturis hitting well in the 8 spot is good for Soriano.

 

Meanwhile, DeRosa, Murton or Jones is a much better option hitting 2nd.

Hopefully, this line up concoction will be short lived. After 4 games last year, I had a long list of things that I felt Dusty did wrong. After 4 games with Lou, the only thing I've second guessed on him is taking out Marquis an inning early. Not bad.

 

I'm second guessing him on Izturis, and I hope I end up being wrong and Izturis has a great day in the 2 hole. But, Izturis just isn't an OBP hog and he's better suited to hit at the bottom of the order.

That's probably true. I actually thought this would have been a good day to get Cedeno a start-they do want to give Izturis a little more rest to make sure he stays healthy, Z's on the mound who has a lot of strikeouts (which makes defensive players less valuable on his days), and Izturis has been terrible against Sheets. IMO, it would have been logical to give Cedeno his start today (even though of course whichever one you pick is likely going to have a tough day).

 

My guess is with Theriot that they just wanted to ride the hot hand with DeRosa, and also Lou seems to want to use Theriot aggressively off of the bench.

Yeah, I hope Lou's attitude is he's just going with the hot hand, because that the only semi-coherent reason I can think of for putting such a low career OBP in front of a team's two best HR hitters.

Just because its Lefty-Lefty doesn't mean its bad. Floyd, incidentally, had better splits against lefties than Cedeno.
