"I bet on my team every night. I didn't bet on my team four nights a week. I was wrong," Rose said.

Rose said that he believed in his team so much that he bet on them to win every night.

"I bet on my team to win every night because I love my team, I believe in my team," Rose said. "I did everything in my power every night to win that game."

And apparently, Rose wants to manage again...

Rose said he doesn't worry about getting into the Hall of Fame anymore, but if he is reinstated, he hopes to manage again in the majors.

it's a yearly event for rose to open up his mouth and say something stupid so people go "OMG PETE ROSE SPEAKS!" he said earlier that he bet on baseball, but never on the reds "to lose," so for the most part, this is old news. he'd walk through hell in a gasoline suit just to keep playing baseball, but i'd do the same thing so i wouldn't have to hear him open his yapper anymore.

Good luck with that! I don't think any team would touch him because of his controversial nature. I'm sure this little revelation won't help...

He's been saying for years that he bet on the Reds to win. That's not anything new.

And if that's all he did, I don't see what the problem would be with betting on your own team.

It's been discussed, but you could overwork a starter to secure a large bet, leave in a reliever and screw the rest of the team because he runs out of gas in August, etc etc

I don't understand how people don't see what the problem is.

Not only that, I'm not really inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt that he's telling the truth about "always" betting on the Reds to win.

I certainly see that it's a problem, but I don't think betting on baseball is worse than many other things that go on in the game today (PEDs). Maybe it's just me, but Rose betting on his team to win just doesn't bother me that much.

Throwing games is what I would take issue with. Betting on your own team to win doesn't seem all that evil to me.

But, there is no way to know whether he bet for or against them.

It's worse because MLB has explicit rules against gambling. Every clubhouse has a sign reminding players against betting on the game. This is the reason why Rose will not be reinstated.

yep. that sign was posted right above the bowl of amphetamines on the craft service table

It's not about being evil. It's about being something that cannot go on with professional sports teams.

This is still an apples and oranges arguement. The reason that baseball has had no major gambling scandals or even hints of gambling scandals except for Pete Rose is because it is a bannable offense in baseball. I believe it is right to keep the ban and would be against anyone who has been banned getting back in.(Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe or Buck Weaver).

If baseball would create a lifetime ban for PEDs than I do believe that scandal would clear itself pretty quickly also. However to compare players today on PEDs to gambling are different arguements. Pete Rose was well aware of the rules and the potential ban when he did what he did. Until last year there were no PED rules and still no lifetime ban.

That, and jeopardizing the future just to win a game that night.

Why is Pete Rose still making headlines?

I really doubt that Rose bet on his team to win EVERY night.

That, in itself, is extremely important.

On nights that the he didn't bet on the Reds, maybe it gave the bookies a little insight on that night's Red's game. . . . if Pete didn't believe enough to bet for them, by not betting he was actually betting against them.

So are you saying that there is the possibility that Dusty use to bet on the Cubs, and thus we have today's Mark Prior and Kerry Wood? :)
