Here is a stat I think is an indicative, if crude, way to judge him:

In games his team won: 56 games...371.1 IP...2.52 ERA

In games his team lost: 54 games...275 IP...7.76 ERA

While these are not "standardized" or "adjusted for league/competition, the vast disparity says, "When he is good he is VERY GOOD, when he is bad...well...that is why God made long relievers."

Steve Trachsel has a 2.23 ERA in his Wins

Steve Trachsel has a 6.81 ERA in his Losses

Terry Mulholland has a career 2.30 ERA in his Wins

Terry Mulholland has a career 6.89 ERA in his Losses

Pedro Astacio has a career 2.44 ERA in his Wins

Pedro Astacio has a career 8.17 ERA in his Losses

Rich Hill has a career 1.36 ERA in his Wins

Rich Hill has a career 10.30 ERA in his Losses

Do you understand my point? Or do I have to spell it out? You just partitioned his good and bad starts. Everyone has similar splits...how often you have good and don't have bad starts determines how good you are. Unfortunately that 7+ ERA happened in half of his decisions.

* Marquis struck out 13 guys in September, Rich Hill struck out 11 in one game in September.

Feel free to add some.

sincere thanks for the refreshing optimism. i have a feeling that jason will have a good year and be a vaulable part of the rotation. i hope he can have a year in 07 like he had in 04 and 05 with 200 ip and 15 wins.

I like it too, but I also like our homegrown kids, we tend to favor them the kids we have seen come through the system. and with Jason's forgettable year last year well......... I hope he can bounce back and win me over with 16 wins. I would prefer Marshal though.

hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Where's the hindsight being applied? I still haven't any valid comparison between the two pitchers, the #1 thing they have in common besides being a RHP SP is they both played for the Cards.

Take it easy, guy. And if you could, leave me off your iStalking list in the future.

Sorry if I think a thread sucks because it's all snarky and has people calling eachother "dicks" in it. My bad. I'll make sure to run all my posts by you in the future.

If you have a problem with me, and judging from your responses to me in other threads you obviously do, then ignore me or stfu because I don't give a crap what you think.

dunno if this has been stated in marquis facts but I did witness him steal a base, granted maddux stole one on the same day. So if that pitching thing don't work out for him then he can be the next slappy

Fact: If you remove all the b's from the following sentence, "Jason Marquis beats children," it becomes "Jason Marquis eats children."

I don't know about that. I would imagine eating children would give you alot of protein and strong muscles. Marquis threw like my grandma last year, so that kind of throws out that theory.
