Barry Bonds-OF-Giants Feb. 6 - 1:27 pm et

Through his agent, Barry Bonds indicated to the Giants in negotiations this winter that he had no plans to retire after 2007 or even after 2008.

He wanted a vesting option for 2008 included in his latest contract with the Giants. There was very little outside interest in Bonds this winter even with him approaching Hank Aaron's record. He better be on best behavior this year if he expects to have a market for his services next winter.

What is he trying to do hit 800 HRs? What a tool

Maybe he's just trying to make another $15 million. The real idiots are the Giants for giving him that much. They were the only bidders for Bonds and now they're not even sure they want him. I wonder what would have happened if the Giants offered him $2-3 million and nobody else jumped in.

I'm sure a team like the Rays would scrounge up money to top that. The Rays can market themselves as the team players go to reach milestones.

Once this contract is up he will be done, whether he wants to be or not. No one other than the Giants were going to sign him, and once the "drama" of the Aaron chase is over he won't be worth the trouble anymore.

The the next we hear from him will be when he's whining because he didn't get inducted into the HOF on his first try, citing racism and other garbage.

Considering the Giants "barely" wanted him back for 2007, and add in the fact that NOBODY wanted him outside of the Giants, he can't really say he's not considering retirement.

My guess is...Bonds breaks the record   :x :-& ](*,) , (* not to mention there WILL be an asterick beside the number, and Bonds will never get the love) and when he realizes NOBDOY wants him, he will have to "retired" by default. Or go play in Japan. Either way, he's out of MLB after 2007.

If Bonds is still productive in 2007 someone in MLB will pay him to play baseball in 2008. Of that I have little doubt.

Did Bonds ever win a WS with anyone. I know he didn't with the Giants but did he ever win one when the Pirates were good in the early 90's?

I hope that something, anything, short of Bonds being paralyzed or killed, happens to keep him from breaking Aaron's record. Aaron was a class act and abundantly deserved the record. Bonds is a dishonest, cheating, rude, ungrateful, jackass who doesn't deserve to be remembered as anything but a dishonest, cheating, rude, ungrateful, jackass.

If he hadn't juiced and had the mega homerun spree in his late 30's, he could have retired a first ballot HOFer. Now he'll be lucky to get in at all, and he has absolutely NOBODY to blame but himself.

No. The Pirates haven't played in the World Series since they won it in 1979.

Considering when he was healthy in 06, he was productive, and still NOBODY outside of SF wanted anything to do with Bonds (hint the reason why he went to the GM meetings, because he was prepare to beg for a jobn), I doubt your statement comes true.

If Bonds is willing to play for less than 10 million, I gurantee some team would take him.

I hope Aaron refuses to congratulate Bonds or even acknowledge him breaking the record. Even better, I think it would be great if all pitchers collude and agree to intentionally walk him every time up so he doesn't ever have the chance to tie or break the record.

I believe I heard that Hank said he will be there. Plus, IMO Hank has too much class not to go especially after all the crap he went through to break it.

Exactly-if Hank congratulates him and is a gentleman, that will just further exemplify the differences between the two men. I'm hoping Hank stays as classy as he seems normally.

Well that's good news. If anyone in baseball deserves to go their entire career without a WS, it's him.
