Wow-good job predicting it Bears fans. Another board is reporting that this deal was for the Jets second rounder-they must have seen the money that the running backs were getting on the free agent market and gotten desperate. This is a good deal for the Bears.

Actually, they are saying it's Jones/Bears 2nd rd for the Jets 2nd rd pick. If the Bears had to thrown in their 2nd rd, plus Jones to move up 5 spots int eh 2nd rd, then this deal SUCKS for Bears. The Jets get a proven RB, plus only lose 5 spots in the 2nd rd. The Bears have to get a 3rd rd pick this yr or next, to make this a "fair deal."

Edit: I see the Bears got the Jets 2nd rd pick (37th overall) from the Jets. But still to use Jones to move up 26 spots. It's not a great deal for the Bears, not bad considering he is an impending FA, just not a good deal. But the bright side is....the Bears now have the 31st and 37th picks. So maybe the Bears could be looking at LB and TE with those picks.

Breaking news on ESPN, Thomas Jones traded to the Jets.

Really...

yes really

I'd post the O RLY owl but I don't want to go there.

I'm suprised that they traded Jones considering his supposed leadership status in the locker room.

Yeah, I saw that and put an edit on my post-just a little too late :D

This is a bad deal for the Bears, but like I thought originally (before I was shocked by this trade), the market for running backs is just not that good-it hasn't been for years. I thought the Bears could get a 4th for him-it seems they didn't even get that.

Cedric Benson better be "The Man". Nonetheless, I still see the Bears taking a RB in the 4th/5th rd of the draft to replace Peterson, who will move up to BACKUP rb.

According to ESPN, it looks like the Bears moved up from pick 63 to pick 37 in the second round.

Yeah, I saw that, and edited my post.

its the Jets 37th pick.

doesnt seem like they really got much. whats better moving up from late second to early second or just getting a third.

According to draft value charts, moving up in the 2nd is probably more valuable. I'd take the 3rd though, but of course it's hard to know if the Jets would offer a 3rd or not.

26 spots is pretty significant, though.

We'll see how much Jones is going to get from the Jets.

I'm hoping there's also a 5th or 6th rounder involved, or maybe a conditional 2008 pick. Still, I think it's a solid move. It's not the Bears M.O., but this sets up a possible trade up. At the very least, it sets up them getting 2 of the top 40 players in the draft, instead of 1 of the top 60. Can easily get 2 starters in with this draft.

And they need to be prepared with whatever happens to Briggs.

With the TJ trade, and Briggs coming out and saying he no longer wants to be a Bear, I fully expect the Bears to consider Paul Posluszny/Jon Beason/Rufus Alexander with the 31st pick, and perhaps an OL/TE with the 37th pick. I'm kinda hoping Posluszny/Miller combo, but would be disappointed with any LB/OL/TE combo at those two picks.

Originally my friend said we got a 2nd rounder for him, and I was fairly pleased...but learning that we basically just moved up in the draft I'm kinda dissapointed.

Maybe they are targetting someone early round for this. At least it makes me know when to turn on the draft for the Bears- Right between 31 and 37

After that I can turn off the draft and wait till the end of the 3rd round.

This is sad. Now that I look at the draft pick value chart, im pleased with the deal. Im just sad because you can get anymore solid a rb then T-Jones. I hope that man gets paid!!!!! I will root for the Jets just for him(and the fact I dont care for the rest of the AFC East).

Whoever gets Paul Poszlusny is going to be really really dissapointed. I really feel like the knee injury will haunt him for the rest of his career.

He was a heck of a ballplayer in college, but considering the move to the middle and how they coddled him this year and tried to hide him, I really don't think he's the same player.

I know the Penn State fellas will come and defend him, but as a Bears fan first, I'd stay away from him. (Don't take offense to what I said about Poszlusny, but I'm really fearful of his bust factor. We need an impact player and a safe player with the first pick)

And here I am. Though I will say his senior year year was good, but not as good as it could have been. I think he could be healthy for next season and if he gets undervalued because of the injury and drops into the second round or so, he could be a good pickup.

Gonna miss you Jones.

Agreed, lets all tip our cap to him. He's been a huge part of our club the last 3 years, and by far the offensive MVP over that period of time. (Well, excluding Brad Maynard)

Still, its time for him to go. Benson has got the shot he's waited for, lets see him deliver. (I'm hoping for a 1500+ yard season out of him)

According to a draft board the difference the Bears made up is equivalant to the 2nd pick in the 3rd round. Getting a mid 2nd round pick would have been the best case for TJ.

I've been very critical of TJ's game but man did he play great in the playoffs and SB this year. He earned my respect. I would of liked to have him for one more year but if they were to trade him I think they got what he was worth.

Bears save about $2.25M in salary, Im not sure of the cap savings.

PFT thinks that this trade puts the Bears in good position to trade up. They mentioned Greg Olson as a target. Id would rather sign someone like Randy McMichael and keep the picks. Whether that is feasible, I don't know. I like the idea of Pauly P. and the Sears kid from Tennessee.

BTW Dallas signed Brad Johnson
