Sure he can, his strengths aren't the Bears need. He's a good back-up/bad starter, people forget that this is Rex's 1st season. I'm not sold on him, but I'm willing to give him next year.

The sad thing is this game was so winnable for the Bears. It can still be won, but we could have control of this game.

Mediocre might've done it. Same with below average.

 

And the media will talk like the Colts were so superior. Down only 5, with the Bears playing awful and turning the ball over. The only people overmatched in Miami tonight are Rivera and Turner.

 

Are you kidding me? The Colts have been dominant today. The Colts should be up by 2 touchdowns right now. They have a 2:1 advantage in TOP and a 3:1 advantage in total yards. The Bears are lucky to be within sniffing distance right now.

 

The Bears could have been up 14 or more at the half had they gotten a few more first downs. The Colts have not been so dominant simply on their own merit.

 

 

Game over now.

 

They haven't moved the ball the whole game. The Bears offense this game has been the kickoff return by Hester and the 52 yard run by Jones. That's it. They've been horrendous for basically the whole game - well the short amount of time they've actually been on the field. Indy had about 250 yards of offense in the first half. Vinatieri has missed a FG and has made 3 inside of 30 yards. If the Colts finish a couple of those drives off, the game would have been over a while ago. This isn't a case of the Bears losing the game rather the Colts winning it.

 

The play calling by the Bears has been awful. It's not like the Colts have been pushing them around. The Bears offense has been awful, but in large part due to the ultra-conservative play calling. No play action, then when they start moving the ball, Turner calls a pass on 2nd and one.

 

The only reason the Colts started moving the ball is because the Bears defense was so tired. The defense was really good for most of the first half. And the two picks? Awful throws, not athletic picks. Indy has been the better team tonight, but not because they are more talented.

 

On another note, Grossman is done in Chicago, for right or wrong. The fans will be merciless on him next season. The criticism? It's only begun.

Rex still has room to improve and get better though because he's young. Griese won't improve anymore. Remember that Rex is in just his first year as a starter. Rex has shown the ability to be a good QB this year and it's not like he only had one or two good games. His big thing will be learning to be more consistent out there.

 

EDIT: I can't believe I just defended Rex Grossman.

How so? Griese has a much higher completion percentage in his career, and his TD to INT ratio is much better as well. And I'm assuming he knows how to take a snap. How exactly do you come to the conclusion that Griese is worse?

He had some decent games in the second half, but it sure seemed like defense just learned how to defense him. Almost all of his really good games were in the first half of the season.

You're right, not only because of what you say but also just because of the practicalities of NFL football. The Bears are in no position -- no way, no how -- to start dealing for a QB. They've got to find a way to resign Lance Briggs or the window closes *immediately*. Then they've got other defensive contracts coming due. The money's going to get tight.

 

They need to resign Grossman for medium dollars, using his poor performances as leverage, and try to coach him up. There is no other way forward.
