It will be really interesting to see what happens with Thomas Jones.

I'd be satisfied with Benson as the full time RB. Having both is nice, but losing Jones would hardly be devastating. There are bigger fish to fry.

Jones will be paid as a feature back for some other team's offense, I assume. I would go with Irons in the 2nd rd. if he's there.

This is part of the progression, the Bears are still a young team with a 2nd yr. QB worth of exper., hopefully Benson will be healthy and Briggs will be back. They need a CB to shift Tillman at safety or another S in the 1st, HB in the 2nd if they lose Jones, and some OL depth.

They should put the franchise tag on Briggs, but I dont see that happening. I believe Ed Reed is going to be a FA at safety. The Bears need a safety, IMO. They're going to have to draft a line backer, a HB, possibly even a tight end, and a OL in the draft.

Adding Ed Reed would make the defense filthy.

I didn't think Reed was an FA. Asante Samuel is though, I wouldn't mind adding him and shifting Tillman.

I don't see Asante keeping up his play going forward, I'd rather keep Tillman at corner.

Really? He's only 26, and he's improved every year. I think he'd be a solid pickup. I'd rather keep Tillman there though and somehow acquire a true safety.

Man, I haven't been this bummed since the summer of '03

Me either. But it definitely doesn't sting nearly as bad. If I were to have heard before the game that this is how it all would have gone down, I wouldn't have been surprised. Disappointed and pissed, yes, but not terribly surprised. Can't say the same for '03.

The Cubs in '03 were the better team and that is why that sucked as bad as it did.

Watching the game today the Colts were the better team so it is disappointing but not so gut wrenching.

Manning was going to get the MVP no matter what if the Colts won. It should have been split between the two running backs. When Jim Nance mentioned that at the end of the game Simms seemed shocked, like he never even thought of that and just automatically wrote in Manning. Most of the voters probably did the same.

As long as there's a solid #2 option to get some carries or a third down back (and Benson is ok - I hope he didn't have a lasting injury today).

Not even close. I'll be largely over this in a couple days. I'm still not over '03, and was inconsolable for a couple weeks immediately afterwards.

I really think AP could be that guy.

Yeah, can't be paying more RBs. Just draft one or pick one up somewhere. The Benson era has begun, assuming his knee isn't too bad.

I agree with all those statements. It was just a really frustrating game. I really thought the Bears had excellent opportunities and they let them pass by.

I'll cheer up in a few days when pitchers and catchers report.

Him and Benson are too similar, IMO. They seem to like the concept of a change of pace back, they'll just switch from finesse to power to power to finesse.

Just got back from the super bowl party...that was an AWESOME game. School will be so great tomorrow. I dont really want to rub it in anyones face...except for that moron who said that the colts had no chance and that (im not joking about this) Grossman is WAY better than manning.

True, but the Bears could have won this game, despite their horrid play, they were right there for most of the game. They weren't the better team, but the ring was well within reach.

I'd love Irons too - not big enough/durable enough to be an everydown player and he should be there in the 2nd.

Of couse they have bigger fish to fry with a second round pick.

I can't even watch that documentary on the '03 season. It gives me stomach pain.

I don't know that this game will ever quite equal that, but it's still pretty disappointing.

I like AP a lot but this is the reason why you need a different guy.

Depending on Briggs and if Jones is not back, I'd disagree. Beyond a S/CB, without Jones, HB becomes the priority followed by O-Line.

Don't we have Jones for one more season?

Yeah.

He'll likely hold out if he's not traded (assuming no new deal obviously).

Yeah, I think you're right. Neither he or Benson were really happy with the arrangement, IMO.

Is anyone watching the NBC affliate(Channel 5) here in Chicago? They're running a ticker at the bottom of the screen with text messages that people have sent.

It's a good thing Rex isn't seeing the ticker.

Given that I fully expected the Bears to be blown out, I suppose this is a minor victory.

-Grossman played like a 1st year starter in the Super, in the rain.

-The defense couldn't stop any 3rd downs, tied or not, and tackled badly.

-Fumbles by Benson and Reed killed our momentum.

-Manning and the Colts were just better. They took what the Bears gave them, all night, and fully deserved to win.

I just kept thinking how different this game would have been w/ Harris and Brown in the line-up.

Health may be the big deal next year. Schedule will be much tougher too, not going to be as easy to clinch that 1st round bye.
