I have been a subscriber to mlb.tv for 3 years. When I was working for the Cardinals we had no TV's in our office so we just logged on to the computer to watch the game. It was great too, because if there were multiple games on that we were interested in, we could use the same log on information and watch all of them (we had a 6 computer set up for work purposes). I just hope the people at MLB.com didnt figure out to monitor how many times one user is logged on.

They don't. I have been using some guys subscription for about 5 years now. My cousin went to U of I with him, that's all I know.

OK, you computer genius's, UPDATE. I just talked to my former boss at the Cardinals because I was curious myself. The guys in the office used my user ID/login info for mlb.tv all the way through the end of the season (I had already paid for a whole season and I quit that job in June of last year). Whats new, is that I myself used MY user ID/login info as well for many of the same games at my home computer WHILE my user ID/login info was being used behind a firewall at a network computer in my old office. So please figure that one out.

MLB.TV has bad security? :D

Out of curiosity, and I'm not saying I would do this, but........

Can you have DirecTV and cable at the same time? Not necessarily every tv, but maybe one tv hooked up to DirecTV and all the others still on cable.

And if this can be done, can you go with the smallest cable package and still get MLB EI?

Yes, you can have both as I do. In my market, DirectTV doesn't offer the local channels at this time. Therefore, I wasn't able to get ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. I tried going with an antennae, but my reception was horrible. So, my cable provider has a very basic cable package for $10 a month that includes maybe 13 channels. It has our local channels plus a few others. I have this so that we get clear reception for those and then use DirectTV for everything else.

Can you get MLB EI with basic cable (or whatever they call it at DirecTV)?

I have the most basic DirectTV package. I don't purchase the sports tier or the movie tier or anything else, but I still subscribe to EI.

.....and how do I get the GD guide to just pop up without having to select options (pressing guide then selecting all channels)?
If you press the Guide button twice, the second time causes the guide to appear on the screen.

how much is extra innings. like $149.99?

That's about right for the early bird price. Through my cable company, I would get it just a bit cheaper than that (139.99) with early bird rate and repeat customer.

Question is now, should I go for it? I'm getting either mlb.tv or EI, not both. With mlb atleast I can watch replays or even a really cool inning over and over if I wanted to. So now I need to decide if I should just try out EI instead.

Anyone know if I'd get any other games in HD with the package?

If you plan on being or are a DirecTV customer, IMO, go with the EI package. You will be able to see HD baseball on ESPN/ESPN2 and INHD1 (subscription required).

MLB.TV is an alternative to those who will not go with DirecTV or want to watch via broadband.

Dish is SO much easier to use and offers access to its many option with 1 push of a button. No matter how much I want EI, its not worth screwing up my wife's entertainment. So much for EI.

Whipped, allergic to superior technology, or both?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A proposal to make Major League Baseball's "Extra Innings" exclusive to DirecTV has drawn the ire of Sen. John Kerry.

The Massachusetts Democrat said he plans to raise the matter with the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission at a hearing Thursday.

"I am opposed to anything that deprives people of reasonable choices," Kerry said in a statement. "In this day and age, consumers should have more choices - not fewer. I'd like to know how this serves the public - a deal that will force fans to subscribe to DirecTV in order to tune in to their favorite players. A Red Sox fan ought to be able to watch their team without having to switch to DirecTV."

Figures.

Now since I only played with it and didn't go too deep, what makes it superior?

Well, I really don't hail DTV over all else all the time. Infact I would prefer Dish, RIGHT NOW. Because of the HD selection, and DVR without massive bugs.

however, in my area. It (DTV) gets BOTH wgn-HD and Comcastsportsnet HD so I can basically watch ALL cubs home games in HD. Half of the cubbie games I watch will be in HD. Dish carries neither wgn-hd OR comcast HD. And also the fact that later this year DTV will probably have more HD channels than any other provider. They are getting tons, CNN-HD, Sci-fi HD, so many that didn't already exist on voom are probably going to be exclusive to DTV for several months while the other providers play catch-up, and try to strike deals. .

So really, all of those other (EI) channels will be standard def. I'm paying $150 to watch tons of standard def baseball. Even in cases where the home team might broadcast in HD, I'll still get standard?

Each team will have at least 2 games a week in HD on EI

The wife told me that she was watching Keith Olberman's show and heard that John Kerry was stepping into the ring in this fight.

Good for him. Something needs to happen soon. We are less than 2 months from baseball season.

This is spectacular news.....Kerry...you get this fixed and I'd consider supporting you for President....or better yet...get this fixed, and Don't run for president...let someone who can actually win have a chance.

of course Kerry is wrong. Red Sox fans in the Boston area will get all the games. Fans nationwide will see them a ton, as I'm sure ESPN will broadcast all 19 of the Boston/Yankee games.

And your point is? Obviously local fans can still watch their team, making that claim is absurd, and pointless. The fact is MLB is taking away a previous choice that MLB fans nationwide had. They are limiting options instead of expanding upon them.

Any news on whether he'll go after this one like he ran his last Presidential campaign?

Excuse me, but Kerry actually won in 2004. He had the election stolen from him just like Gore before him. BTW He's already said he's not running anyway. I don't blame him after the injustice that was done to him, and all of america on that day.
