I know I paid $135 for it last year, but it was also some preseason deal. I'm not sure what the regular price was.

DirecTV is negotiating with MLB to be the exclusive provider of MLB Extra Innings. If the deal goes through, you'll only be able to get Extra Innings through DirecTV.

Is it just me, or does it seem shortsighted to take extra money to limit the exposure of your sport?

They will certainly lose me as a customer if they do that. I have zero interest in DirectTV.

I usually just get auto-renewed each year through my cable company. They give me all the discounts that comes with it. Those discounts are "early bird" and "repeat customer". I'd have to do some digging to find out how much I paid last year, but it was probably $139.99.

I'd pay for it if it was $339.99, but don't tell them that. What I won't pay for is a completely different cable package like DirectTV. I think it would be somewhat stupid to go exclusive with a single cable provider, but who am I? Just some dumb ole consumer.

I am going to be very unhappy if Dish Network doesn't provide MLB Extra Innings. No way am I changing over to DirecTV. Already had a terrible experience with those dipsticks.

The year before last, I got the "Early Bird" special for $120, but I don't think it was offered last season with Dish Network. I know I paid $150 for it, but if it gets over $200 - I'm going to have a hard time with the wife. Yet I'd pay....

TMQ talks about this with the NFL and DirectTV very frequently, and this type of agreement probably breaks the anti-trust agreement, so it would be doubly stupid for MLB to do the same thing.

I'll get it if my cable company has it (last year they didn't). If it goes DirectTV only, I'm with BBB- hosed. My cable, phone, and high-speed internet are all through my cable company. Of course, I'm hosed if my cable company doesn't carry it as well.

I'm strongly considering leaving directv after a series of disappointments regarding their new hd/dvr combo receiver. This would piss me off, but I still think I'll be making the move.

Exclusivity for the NFL made sense when directv was basically paying to put itself on the map. But with the increased popularity of sports packages, I can't imagine how much they'd have to pay to guarantee exclusive rights in today's market.

It just CAN"T go to DirectTV...

I've always thought that ultimatly the NFL would have to make the Sunday Ticket available to the masses through allowing it to be bought on digital cable as well as direct tv. It just doesn't make sense to me that they can get more from DirectTV than they could from the 10s of millions of households that don't have DirectTV but might otherwise buy the Sunday Ticket. Same thing for baseball...

I'd have to call congress or something.

I had DirectTV for all of 3 days early this fall. After getting into 4 different shouting matches with their service people (this after having their installers fail to show up 3 separate times) I told them where they could shove their dish.

Were they supposed to install an HD/DVR combo receiver? I had 6 different failed installation/upgrades this fall. I've spent a boatload there since getting directv in 1998, and they know it. They gave me all sorts of financial incentives to stay on, but I'm pretty sure I'm leaving next week once I figure out exactly what cable will give me.

DirecTV is going to take EI to the next level once negotiations are complete. You'll see Saturday games of the week with no territorial restrictions, and HD games all over the place. It's going to be awesome.

I can't imagine going back to pre-DirecTV existance. Cable blows, and as somone with subs to both satellite providers, I can safely say that DishNet is a bush league operation.

It wasn't an HD reciever but it was DVR...they just didn't show up several times...when they did (my wife was home...they started putting the dish on the side of the house(where it was supposed to be)...she went inside to take care of the baby...came back out after they were done and it was hooked up and they had put a pole smack dab in the middle of our small back yard (said it was the only place he could put it) without asking her if it was ok)...just all kinds of problems.

They just FedExed mine for self-installation. Did you need extra feeds run?

I needed a whole new dish. I self installed the first time I got it and had too many problems with weather related issues. I've had professional installation both times I've moved and it's been great. But the customer service is atrocious and the fact that they try and force you to pay for hardware is a joke. They just don't value current customers as much as new. My friends have left directv and they immediately call back with all sorts of offers to get them back. Everybody I know who has digital cable absolutely loves it.

I love my DirecTV. I had a installer not bring the right dish when I was upgraded 4-5 months ago to the new HD locals. I called and they gave me some free programming. THe next day they forgot some clamps so I called again and really complained. I then got over $400 worth the free programming and they came and installed the next day. It didn't bother me since we still had our original dish up and I could watch everything I wanted with it.

I love extra innings, and plan on getting it again this year. Hopefully that price stays under $200 though.

I'd have to call congress or something.

In early December, Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) introduced a bill that would repeal the NFL's antitrust exemption under the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.

If Congress is going to do anything about this, Specter will be the one to do it.

Some of us cannot use a satellite based TV service such as Direct TV. How are we supposed to feel about something like this? It won't be so awesome for us.

I guess I would just give up baseball.

Losing the extra innings package on Dishnetwork would really really piss me off. There's no way Id switch to DirectTV, they dont even have WGN on DirectTV do they? Anyway I have heard nothing but bad things about them and Ive been real happy with my DVR/Service with Dishnetwork.
