MLB.com doesn't have the info listed yet... does anyone remember how much MLB.TV costs for a full season?

I didn't have it last year, but I was curious about it the other day and I think I found something that said it was 80 bucks last year.

I remember seeing it for 79.95 each of the past two seasons.

I have already began my search for the best way to bring MLB.tv into my house.

I would switch to DirecTV, but it is not an option and that sucks!

Seriously, do you work for DirectTV?

No.

Its pretty obvious this is horrible for the average fan.

The "average" fan is not ponying up for EI. This is, no pun intended, a "superfan" product, aimed squarely at folks just ravenous enough to switch providers for the sole purpose of getting the games.

Well, because for those with DirectTV, this package was already available last year...they really get nothing more. EVERYONE ELSE who doesn't have DirecTV...they get screwed. If you can't see that you're obviously biased.

As I've said, the package will be greatly enhanced in short order. MLBEI is going to be a major cog in DirecTV's churn-reducing efforts, and as such, must provide a significantly better service than that offered online via MLB.tv.

This package hasn't been bettered in its ten years of existance. That's a sham that will at last be put to bed.

Bottom line. Everyone with cable (the vast vast majority of fans) is getting screwed here.

No one is getting screwed. You act as if DirecTV is some kind of elitist option, unavailable to 90% of the country or some such nonsense.

MLB is the one that made the agreement to go exclusive with DirecTV. I absolutely will not support them through MLB.tv.

It defeats the purpose of being upset about MLB EI.

BBB, Petco has no area for smokers? Are you serious? I thought they did.

Even Angel and Dodger Stadium do.

The first couple of years, they allowed smoking. Right after the WBC, the banned it completely. It was supposed to be banned during the WBC, but I still stole a smoke or two. Now, you get fined if you smoke anywhere on the stadium grounds. And it's not like you can just exit the stadium, either. They have guys standing at the exits that make you cross the street before you light up.

Let the Nazi's have their stadium. The time will come when the Padres team will be really bad. When that happens, they will be sad that they shut the smokers out. It's not like it used to be at Jack Murphy/Qualcomm where the fans enjoyed a Padres game regardless of how bad the team was. The tailgaiting alone was a big reason to go to a game. Petco doesn't have tailgaiting. I can't wait to see the revolt. I was hoping it would have happened by now. Unfortunately, the other teams in the NL West have been pretty bad of late, delaying the inevitable.

I'm upset about it but I will definitely make the switch to Direct TV. I'm easy.

Very much so in Milwaukee.

Really? I just thought they went to bars and then went to the game. Interesting.

They even have these giant concrete cylanders in the parking lot for dumping ashes from your grills. There are also a couple party tents were groups reserve them and the benches and get a feast in them.

They used to here in SD. They don't anymore since there is nowhere to tailgate. If Wrigley had parking all the way around the stadium, I'm sure that would be quite a traditional ritual there, as well.

Will you be easy when the package price becomes $350+ per year?

When sports bars refuse to pay the huge package price for baseball like they do Sunday Ticket, as I'm sure DirecTV seems to think sports bars will value a baseball package as much as football, the price for the everyday consumer will skyrocket.

Even I enjoyed going to the tailgate parties at Qualcomm. Very fun!

Cause you could smoke

LOL. Yeah. Not really. You could smoke in Qualcomm in the outer concourses as well, but even I'm in agreement that wasn't the best set up to be respectful of non-smokers.

exactly, i could see them sending back a canned response quoting MLB.tv's rates-what a savings over EI! Its a win-win for MLB, unless there is some more backlash.

and as a healthcare worker, i think a near banishment of all smokers is not inappropriate. a large stadium should have a smoking section the size of a phone booth, with no circulation. maybe bring back scarlet letters.

/end rant

I contacted someone at Cox Communications, and they have heard nothing about this proposed deal. They still have the green light to show MLB EI this year. I had the guy research as much as he could, and he found nothing.

The article does say that it the proposal wasn't complete, so maybe things will change after completion, but at this time, cable subscribers can still sign up for the EI package in mid February.

Nice attitude. Smokers rights will soon enough be nil, and it won't be long until they find some other group to pick on since there won't be anything else they can do to smokers.

By my calculations, fast food eaters will be next on the list. The government will start piling on the taxes for every greasy burger that gets ordered.

Someone called the Show with Dibble and Kennedy yesterday to complain about this. According to Dibble and Kennedy, the exclusive deal wouldn't begin until 2009. Of course, I'm not sure I'd trust those two...but that is what they said.

For those interested in the MLB.TV package, last year I believe I paid $79.95. I will not be renewing the package. The picture quality is horrific. I have a 6MB connection speed, and I still had problems all the time. I know you may ask if I was running a wireless connection, but I was not. The service was terrible, and I wouldn't pay for it again if it was $10. That's just my opinion though.

The previously posted article from the NY Times says that the MLB tv network would start in 2009, but it did NOT say when MLB EI would go exclusive with DirecTV.

It's possible that it won't start this year. In less than a month, Cox Communications will start collecting money for the MLB EI package for the 2007 season.

The guy I spoke with said that Cox Communications, as well as the other two of the big 3 (Comcast and Time Warner) were all shareholders of MLB EI. He said he couldn't imagine how this would happen, though the article does seem to say it will. But, the guy I spoke with didn't seem like a real "in the know" character. So, who knows.

I hear what you're saying, but I find it unlikely sports bars will refuse to carry the baseball package. They'll lose business like crazy to those who do. It's the whole reason they're in business. They'll be ponying up.

I don't see it as being that popular in a bar and not nearly as popular as football.
