well, i was gonna watch a little of the Meineke Bowl while having lunch, but the two-headed monster of Pam Ward and Mike Gottfried is doing the game... so I had to watch something else.

Worst broadcasting duo ever. Gottfried sounds like he's drunk when he's calling a game.

I got 30 on BC, 32 on Texas, and 28 on VT today, so if things don't go well, that would be about it for my chances. :)

I went to bed thinking I was done in my pool. Tech keeps my slim hopes alive.

28 on Texas, 25 on VA Tech, and 4 on Navy today. The 4 on Navy might be the biggest cause I'm thinking a lot of people went big on BC.

How could a coach have run the Navy offense for 20+ years and not know to not run the [expletive] option on 3rd and 15 with 1:40 left and the defense with no TOs. You're on the 50 yard line, you dive up the middle, punt it away, and BC has to drive 65 yards for a FG with 1:00 left and no TOs. Just brutal.

I don't think it was a brutal decision. Paul Johnson had been coaching very aggressively the whole game, Kaipo's been throwing well from what I saw and a first down ends the game.

I'm assuming he told Kaipo to be careful with the ball and not do anything dumb (which he wasn't careful). With a mobile QB like Kaipo, you have the added threat of the run which increases the likelihood that someone comes open or a hole develops for Kaipo to run through.

Not a terrible call, but it should have been executed better.

They needed 15 yards and BC was still looking run. If Navy got beat cause they were picked throwing a pass there, it'd be a lot more forgivable to me. It was simply far too much risk to take, when they were already in the driver's seat, only needing to not completely melt down on defense to win.

I would have preferred a playaction pass there, especially with BC looking run like you said. But the option is the bread and butter of Navy and typically is a semi safe call for a team that specializes in it.

Plus, after looking at it again, Campbell had a fair amount of room to run after catching the pitch. With his speed, it's quite possible he gains at least close to the needed yardage. And there is no reason he shouldn't have caught the pitch, it was fine, so I blame Campbell not Kaipo.

real nice call by texas, running the end-around as iowa looks for the run up the gut.

edit - smart play by selvin young, falling down before reaching the sideline.

26-24 Texas... props to Iowa for the strong effort against a more talented team in what was essentially a road game. Can't say I'll ever feel great picking against a Ferentz-led team, even in a down year.
