Damn it, now I remember why I never liked these pick ems before. It'll be a while before I can even catch CCP because we agree on most of the upcoming games except tomorrow's (I picked Nevada) and only 4 points are at stake there.

Through Saturday's games

The Big 10 is doing well to maintain their proud tradition of sucking up the joint come bowl season

It really is frustrating. Minnesota blows a big lead. Purdue looks like they didnt even care and Iowa plays well but is playing a superior opponent in a Home game for them. Also a couple of questionable calls didnt go Iowa's way.

Its almost like a cd that keeps skipping. These are the same kind of things that happen every year. I think fortunes will change some tomorrow as either Wisconsin or Penn St will pull off upsets and both Michigan and OSU will win. So they will probably end up 3-4, but 2-1 against the SEC.

Glen Mason has reportedly been fired by Minnesota today.

about six years too late. And what's funny is that without that epic collapse, he'd still be coaching the Gophers next year. And with Mason, I use the term "coaching" loosely.

He's always been a solid, but not great, offensive coach and their running game has always been good. But they never have any semblance of a defense whatsoever and this was the last straw.

From fireglenmason.com:

Well, it looks like my little winter break is over! I am finding this game hard to believe, and I am the administrator of a site dedicated to Glen Mason's coaching failures! Holy Crap! The biggest 2nd half collapse in Bowl history! Obviously the Texas Tech fans that were leaving at halftime have never followed the career of Glen Mason. If ever there was a game that defined a coach's tenure, this is the one.

I can talk all day about getting conservative with a lead, playing soft prevent D, and whatnot, but if you have NFL Network or managed to find a bar that does, you probably don’t need to hear that right now. They gave up a 38-7 lead in the 2nd half?!?!?! I had to call all of my friends just to verify I didn't imagine this whole game. As much as I complain about the Northwestern Hail Mary, Wisconsin collapse, Michigan......this one takes the cake.

...

We Got Him!

Mason's firing will be announced today(12/31/06)!

As someone who has followed Big Ten football for the past five years, I can say for certain that just as big a weakness as the defense is Mason's inability to coach with the lead. When they have a 4th quarter lead they go into the prevent and go away from the good balanced offense that was gaining yards and scoring points. If other D-I athletic directors have any sense, Mason will never have another head coaching job.

Yeah, I should have added that. I remember specifically the Michigan game in Minnesota a couple years ago at the Metrodome when Minnesota choked away a huge fourth quarter lead.

More... this from http://www.fireglenmason.blogspot.com

After posting last night (and a couple more whiskey's) I caught a bit of the first half of the Insight Bowl being replayed on the NFL Network. As I watched Glen Mason smirk I got more and more angry.

I then made a call to my cousin, who was at the game in Tempe, and left him a voicemail message. My message to him, as much as I can recall anyway, in slurred speech was something to this effect.

In the history of my life I can't think of any one person that has caused me more pain and personal anguish than Glen Mason.

Thanks to Glen Mason my entire Saturday today was ruined as my wife repeatedly told me that I was crabby, and in a bad mood.

Thanks to Glen Mason my wife is now ruined as a Gopher fan. 6 months into marriage and she's stuck with the Gophers, just like me. She's already saying things like "I don't understand. What is a coach's job? Isn't it to win? And what does Glen Mason do?"

As Gopher fans, are you like me? Do you just feel tired and run down today? Just beat up and miserable?

I wish this stuff didn't affect me so much, but my wife is right. I WAS crabby all day today. It's honestly to the point that I take it personal. I feel like Glen Mason himself has kicked me square in the seeds.

Miami takes a 7-0 lead in the 30 degree weather of Boise, Idaho.

I don't know about any of you but regardless of the outcome of the game, I find it hilarious that the U has to play a bowl game and likely spend New Years in Boise.
