After posting last night (and a couple more whiskey's) I caught a bit of the first half of the Insight Bowl being replayed on the NFL Network. As I watched Glen Mason smirk I got more and more angry.

I then made a call to my cousin, who was at the game in Tempe, and left him a voicemail message. My message to him, as much as I can recall anyway, in slurred speech was something to this effect.

In the history of my life I can't think of any one person that has caused me more pain and personal anguish than Glen Mason.

Thanks to Glen Mason my entire Saturday today was ruined as my wife repeatedly told me that I was crabby, and in a bad mood.

Thanks to Glen Mason my wife is now ruined as a Gopher fan. 6 months into marriage and she's stuck with the Gophers, just like me. She's already saying things like "I don't understand. What is a coach's job? Isn't it to win? And what does Glen Mason do?"

As Gopher fans, are you like me? Do you just feel tired and run down today? Just beat up and miserable?

I wish this stuff didn't affect me so much, but my wife is right. I WAS crabby all day today. It's honestly to the point that I take it personal. I feel like Glen Mason himself has kicked me square in the seeds.

 

 

If this guy thinks Mason is bad, what did he think of the 4 or 5 really bad coaches Minnesota had before him. I agree Mason is flawwed and completely understand his firing. He did make Minnesota into a competitive program though.

 

Another rememberable collapse was in a Purdue game several years ago. Purdue got the ball on like their own 30 with 15 secs left or so and no timeoouts. They got into field goal range and won the game.

Don't get me wrong, Mason isn't completely incompetent, but he's never going to get a team past the mediocre stage. He can coach a program from bad to mediocre. But his defenses always suck, he doesn't make proper, halftime adjustments, and he hasn't learned after choke after choke that you do not go away from what go you the lead in the first place. If you're a school like Duke and just want to win a few games each year, maybe he's your guy. But he's shown no ability to improve his flaws as a coach and he'll never be anything other than the paragon of mediocrity that he became at Minnesota.

It's bad news when your own local paper predicts PSU to lose by 7 to the Vols today :(

 

My local paper predicts UCLA will lose nearly every time, but that's because nearly everyone in the LA Times sports section is a USC fan.

If you're talking about Hefney's fair catch, I don't think the team is very focused today. Not sure what the problem is, but we're making mental mistakes left and right.

Yeah, it was dumb and I think Fulmer let him know that. We just don't seem focused today. Hopefully we'll figure out that there's a game going on before it's over.

Is Nebraska a young team? If they are I think they are going to be the team to beat in the Big 12.

 

If Penn State had an offense they would have had a chance at the National Championship.

Their QB is a senior but most of the playmakers are sophomores or juniors. I know their best defensive player, Adam Carriker, is a senior...but I don't know about the rest of the defense.

Auburn needs to put together a sustained drive right here to show they can move the ball on the Nebraska offense. Both of their scores were set up by Nebraska turnovers.

 

And as I type this, they go 3 and out.

With the first two games both close, it's going to take some mastery of the remote once the two 10:00 games start.

 

Don't forget Arkansas/Wisconsin starting shortly.
