This thread is quite funny. Not "ha ha" funny though.

ANGEL PAGAN IS NOT GOOD, AND HE NEVER WILL BE.

He could be good if we put him in a position to suceed. For instance, if he was only ever allowed to pinch run (not steal) and never touch a bat or a glove, he'd be amazing at his job.

All I know is that those of you that thought Dubois could hit are dumber than bricks.

Also, Todd Walker sucks.

We were desperate at the time for anything. Walker seemed good----still good in comparison to DeRosa, IMO.

Dubois was just desperation: "please learn to hit or we're sunk" kinda thing. Of course, as it turns out, we were sunk

Can't argue with that.

All I wanted to show is that players can improve in the majors beyond what they produced in the minors.

Pagan can do the same, albeit at a much reduced level. The physical tools are there.

Who thought highly of those players? The stats community? Nope. Scouts did. And it's the Cubs scouts who targeted Pagan. Scouting has it's flaws, but sometimes they're able to see stuff stats don't predict. All stats do is predict future performance based on past performance, irregardless of the extenuation circumstances. That's a serious blind spot.

Scouts have issues too, no doubt. Too much dreaming and not enough actual production in many cases.

Having the tools to be a 5th OF'er and having the tools to be a starting CF'er (even if it's holding the spot for Pie) is quite different.

Even based on tools, he has one tool that is avg. or above avg. (speed). I wouldn't classify his hitting, arm, raw power, or fielding (as a CF'er) as avg. or above average.

He has a place on the team, though.
