Ken Rosenthal[/url]"]The Rangers, moving to fill their center-field void, are close to signing free-agent center fielder Kenny Lofton, FOXSports.com has learned.

The deal, expected to be for one year, would give the Rangers a replacement for Gary Matthews Jr., who agreed to a five-year, $50 million free-agent contract with the Angels.

What do you guys think Church could put up in a full season?

maybe something like .280/.360/.450/.810? Is that reasonable?

I think that might even be a little conservative, but I'd love that kind of production in CF.

I think that's a reasonable assumption. I always wondered what he'd do over a full season.

Maybe conservative, but all 3 of those numbers are higher then his career averages. But of course sample size and the fact that hes young play into that big time

No, because your numbers don't even add up.

.456/.560/.650/1.210 might be about right, though. :P

That works for me.

Really wish we could have gotten a deal done with Lofton. Having another 30 SB guy in the lineup would have been nice.

Eh, after reading some Dodger forums, sounds like his arm is about as weak as Pierre's, in addition to probably not being able to play full time.

I'd rather have Church.

yeah, that was the cubs' problem last year...not enough stolen bases.

I'd rather have Church too, but last I heard the Nats wanted the farm for him.

Is he that much more valuable than a year of Lofton and then Pie to give up as much as it sounds like the Nats want? I'd love him, but I'm very unsure about the cost.

I think they wanted marmol instead of marshall... Pay up Jimmy!!!

Yeah, doesn't sound like they want the farm for him. More like they want the best offer they can hold out and receive from the 3 or 4 teams asking about him.

Seems his value is increasing by the day, so the longer this drags out and more CFers are off the market, could take more in terms of talent to get him. Certainly not the ridiculous demands of a Tampa Bay GM.

But, Baldelli is another guy I'm interested in. Unfortunately, Baldelli is another guy who struggles with OBP, which has been a common theme this offseason, even if they have done a bit better than previous seasons.

Knowing the Cubs, they aren't going to get the OBP guys regardless, so maybe it'd be better just to load up on the fast power guys, like Soriano, and to a lesser extent, Baldelli. I mean, if the alternative is a Juan Pierre clone, I'd much rather see the guy with some sort of upside.

Someday, an outfield of Baldelli, Pie and Soriano could be really interesting (assuming they end up dealing the OBP heavy/ SLG light Murton).

I agree with you BBB, but remember that Baldelli is both younger and more experienced.

Although Tampa's price is probably too high anyway.

Atlanta is talking with them, and reports are that the price tag so far is Chuck James, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and Yunel Escobar. That's a steep price considering James won 11 games and Saltalamacchia looks like a serious catching prospect.

What about Trot Nixon?

Using my Cubbie sense, I'm thinking Church is unpossible.

No kidding. Chuck James is a great prospect, went 11-4 starting only 18 games last year, and pitched 6 or more innings in 12 of those games. 1.24 WHIP and a 3.78 ERA, he's only 25 and a lefty.

In the unlikely event the Cubs are going to keep Jacque and play him in CF, they need a legitimate defensive CF on the roster. Angel Pagan does not qualify. It wouldn't hurt to have one even if they wind up trading for Church.

I wonder if Jeremy Reed is healthy and what Seattle's plans are for him.
