The Sox could be collecting prospects for any number of big acquisitions. They may be collecting the pieces for a Tejeda deal or maybe to make a run at Dontrelle.

The Marlins have shown interest in Taveras.....

Rotoworld is now saying that Jason Hirsch is being added to the deal for Garland.

Just wow. I hope they do it. Williams will have pulled off another great trade if that happens.

maybe... depends on how Hirsh turns out. I guess I value a league-average pitcher who has made all his starts for five years in a row.

The Sox don't need Tavares. They have Sweeney and Anderson. I'd almost guarantee they have another deal working.

That gives the Sox Gavin Floyd, Jason Hirsh, Gio Gonzalez, Taylor Buchholz, Willy Taveras and their own prospects to get someone big.

Does Hirsch make this bad deal a good one?

Yep, he's pretty much the best young pitcher the Astros have right now (although some people argue Troy Patton is better, but whatever).

Can't believe the White Sox were about to trade a guy with 200+ innings and an above-average ERA+ the last three years, for considerably worse starter and a fast outfielder who has no pop and can't get on base enough.

Wasn't his ERA+ just 95 in 2004?

according to baseball reference it was 100/99/100/127/103 in the past five years

Hardballtimes has his ERA+ at 95 in 2004.

Really, especially when dealing with a pitcher like Garland, defensive independent ERA would be a better way of calculating value.

I don't know of Jason Hirsch, just how good is he?

Jason Hirsh.

He was rated very highly by Sickels and BA before last season.

He was roughed up a bit in his time in the majors last season, but went 13-2 with a 2.10 ERA at AAA Round Rock with a 1.06 WHIP.

In 2005, he went 13-8 with a 2.87 ERA at AA.

He'll be 25 years old in 2007.

He's a top of the line prospect, and with a little patience is likely major league ready.

Garland is trash, I dont want him and his garbage contract anywhere near this team. I swear sometimes, people on this board are freaking [expletive].

LMAO! How many threads this winter will Modzilla be in?

I still think the Sox got ripped off, unless they pull off another trade.

Isn't there anything we could give the Astros that's better than Garland? I'd love to have Hirsch.

I'd be one of those some people. :)

Good trade for the White Sox, even though Taveras is vastly overrated.

It's becoming obvious the Sox are stockpiling young guys for a trade (Floyd, Gonzalez, Hirsch).

If there's one way to convince a group of people that you're right and they're wrong, it's to call them [expletive].

Ok, explain to me who else you would want that is available.

I'm not sure the Cubs have anything better than Garland that can be traded.

That may be the saddest thing I've read this off-season. Even more so b/c it's true.

Kenny Williams is smart. He's busy stockpiling young, cheap arms while the rest of the league is chasing after aging, injury-ridden ones.

Although I thought he would stick with Garland----still young. Maybe there's some mileage on that arm that we don't know about.

All of this discussion about the WS stockpiling young pitchers to make a run at ARod, A. Jones, Wells, or Tejada doesn't make sense. Even if they get one of these guys, they won't have the pitching to win next year and then Dye, A. Jones, Wells, or Tejada leave for free agency. Williams had better have something lined up because his starters are a valuable commodity this offseason and he should be getting more in return for them.

Williams is smart because he realizes the market for SP has been insane lately. There would be no possible way that he could keep that rotation held together without throwing big money at all five of them.
