What a greedy sob. Why in the hell would he want to play for the Royals? He is obviously in it for the money. He could have had a chance to play for two contending teams in the Cubs and Blue Jays. But the prick decided to take the money and run. Screw you Meche.

Hahaha, you'd think his father had walked out on him. It's just a crappy pitcher, buddy. Hell, he's going where he belongs if you ask me.

Apparently about 90% of major league players are greedy pricks then.

You enjoy your below-average $11M per year pitcher, Royals. Good luck with that.

Meche will not be a Royal at the end of this contract. I just can't see it.

Not sure why he would do that, but hey, good for the Royals to make a huge splash.

I agree. Not that getting paid $45 million is a bad way to spend four years, but if you're a competitor, why on earth would you go where playoff hopes go to die?

Well, he's from Louisiana... maybe he's just more of a small-town guy who prefers being away from the high-profile, major-market teams. Who knows. I don't begrudge athletes for taking the highest offer - most of us would probably do that too.

did everyone forget how much the cubs have sucked over the past couple years?

Regardless, it's still a solid destination for players.

The Blue Jays haven't won anything in 10 years. They play in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox.

The Cubs still have a lot of questions to answer before they can really be called contenders. I'm guessing the Cubs offer was significantly less than what he'll get from KC.

By taking KC's money he is set for life and has the chance to be traded to a contender if he pitches well.

Awwwwwwwww.

And who knows if the Cubs or Blue Jays will contend? The Jays are in the AL East and the Cubs, well, they're the Cubs.

I'm glad we didn't land Meche. Now let's quickly pry Garland away from the Sox :)

The guy just did us a huge favor and you're treating him like this?! We should be sending him flowers.

I can't help but feel that he's a perfect fit for the Royals.

Welp, dodged that bullet.

So... now what?

Sign Zito or overpay for a starter. Williams will gave it to us hard by trading Garland to the Astros. We could have made a run at Garland, then again I'm sure the Sox fan would be steamed.

I'm not ready to count the Cubs out of the Meche derby until he signs the dotted line. It seems like both sides wanted this to happen pretty badly.

Zito would be horrible in the NL central, just horrible. And the Garland deal is dead.

ESPN is reporting this is a 4 yr/45 million dollar contract w/ the Royals.

$5 M more over the life of the contract then Lilly.

Amazing!

Maybe this opens the door to Mr. Consistent, Jeff Suppan

no, please keep that door closed

I felt just like that about Suppan but some pointed out his numbers and he wasn't that bad. Post all-star last year he had a 2.5ish era.

so because of that we're willing to overlook the other 10 years that he was just an average pitcher? He is what he is, don't go fooling yourself into thinking he's good.

Did you not just say: "I guess I value a league-average pitcher who has made all his starts for five years in a row."?
