my point is that if you take out the stats from his best year, where he happened to bat leadoff, his stats are the same whether in the 1, 5, 6, or 7 hole.

The common denominator in Soriano's best seasons are him spending the majority of the time leading off.

and we haven't had a terrorist attack since 911 because of George Bush. in other words, there is no reason to believe there is a cause and effect relationship.

3 pages and no mention of the Lofton post-season curse.
:?: :?:

Kenny Lofton has made the playoffs 8 times, and the team has been eliminated every time. Some bad times include 2003 Cubs and 2004 Yankees.

And why would that be? He's played with 3 different teams in 3 different divisions, he's played in both leagues, and he's had big years at ages ranging from 26 to 30. Can you suggest a reasonable alternative? Either way, it's not anywhere near a "myth".

I would only be in favor of Lofton if it means Soriano is playing 2B.

i dont think there is much question that soriano will be in rf next year and that jones will be traded. murton lofton soriano is the most likely of in 2007 imo.

didn't lofton make the last out with the indians, giants, cubs and yankees in their post season runs?

Bako made the last out for the Cubs.

Haha.....and the Cubs have made the playoffs 1/1 years with Lofton, 7/74 times without him in that span....I'd take my chances with him.

Would Byrnes be a good fit in CF? Ideally, he's not the Cubs should be looking for (RH'ed lower OBP), but if they need a CF'er, I think he provides above avg. pop and good defense in CF.

I don't know what they're looking for and what not, but if there was some way to trade for him and put a defensive liability at 2B while platooning Derosa/Jones, it could potentially be better than the current situation.

He just needs a haircut.

Isn't he close to signing an extension with Arizona? I thought I read that somewhere.

Actually, it's seven times: 1935, 1938, 1945, 1984, 1989, 1998, and 2003. [/nitpick]

Byrnes is a guy I wanted to get last year. He seems great for the clubhouse and leaves it all out on the field everyday. He is right handed though so I don't see him coming.

Of what's readily available, I'd prefer Ryan Church over Lofton, just because it'd be nice to have some pop. But Lofton isn't a horrible option. It'd be real nice to get somebody on base in front of Lee and Ramirez.

Any news on Church being available? I would definitely be more interested in him than Lofton or Lugo for CF. Church has some pop in his bat, and also gets on base at a fairly decent clip.

Aside from Jim Bowden's blatant dislike of him, I havent really heard anything.

Lofton is interesting. I think the best thing would be to bring him in and bat him leadoff, moving Soriano to the middle of the order.....but I don't think that would happen. I think he would bat 2, behind Alfonso. Really would be a great option as a #2 hitter. Problem is, you still have a middle of the order bat batting leadoff, and Lofton is hitting 2nd, replacing a middle of the order bat in Jones.

For Lofton to make sense, the Cubs have to upgrade at SS.

Or count on Murton to grow into a middle of the order bat in 2007.

Byrnes was upset that AZ did not want to offer a multi year deal and will likely go to arbitration. He does want to say w/the D-Backs, but they have younger, better, and cheaper options in the OF.

That depends on how you use the word "since"

Could we just take Chris Young, instead? ;)
