From Rotoworld:

Scott Podsednik-OF-White Sox Dec. 1 - 12:59 pm et

White Sox agreed to terms with outfielder Scott Podsednik on a one-year, $2.9 million contract.

It should have been a rather easy call at that price. Even if the White Sox decide they can do better in left field, Podsednik should have a little trade value. Podsednik won't be eligible for free agency until after 2008, a fact that could make him more attractive to other teams.

you are right - milwaukee fleeced them - that is why the white sox won the world series when they traded for podsednik and the white sox really got ripped off when podsednik made the all star game and when he hit the GW homer in game 2 of the world series - great argument there!

One more year of Ozzednik man-love... or Scozzie man-love.

-Podsednik was an All-Star because of a ridiculous fan vote, not because he desrved to be there.

-The White Sox won the World Series because every pitcher on that staff had a career year at the same time, not because of Scott Podsednik's presence on the team

-1 GW homer in the playoffs does not a great player make.

I agree, Podsednik was the reason the Sox won the WS.

He has the grit, the intestinal fortitude, the hustle and moxie that really pushed them over the top.

I also heard that Pods gives gold coins to the Salvation Army instead of regular change.

He's the bestest.

(undeserved) All-Star appearance + GW homerun in one game = good player?

Given Pierre's contract, Pods should fire his agent.

There isn't all much more that he could do being 2 years away from free agency. I'm sure on the open market he would have gotten more, but I doubt arbitration would have given him too much more, especially when this is a pretty decent raise from last year.

Podsednik was 264th in the majors with a 5.8 VORP.

Lee was 98th with a 24.7

This takes into account SB.

It was a bad trade, but at the same time, you can't argue with a WS title...can you?

I can when the player in question had less to do with it than every other starting position player and pitcher on the roster.

I didn't realize he had 2 years remaining. It seems like he's been around longer than that.

Still, that's a very low number for arbitration, Pierre made double that last year.

I don't think the trade was THAT bad considering Milwaukee later traded Carlos Lee. It worked well for both teams in 05, well at least the first half of 05. Podsednik really hasn't been the same ever since he had that groin injury back at around the midway point of the 05 season. He's definitely not the same player on the basepaths that he used to be.

By God, don't tell that to Bill Mazeroski, or the writers who voted him into the hall of fame !!

The Brewers really did fleece the Sox in that trade, but why did they get so little in return when they traded Lee to the Rangers? Not only did they give up lee but imo the Rangers also got the best prospect in the deal.

not that he should be in the HOF, but Maz is often regarded as the best defensive second baseman in the history of the game, so at least he has that.

Bill Mazeroski and Ozzie Smith are interchangeable here.

I was personally rooting for the Sox to sign Juan Pierre, but I'll settle for them keeping their existing crappy leadoff hitter.

The trade with the Brewers was a salary dump. They shed the eight million they would have owed Caballo in 2005, and used it to sign Tadahito Iguchi (2.3 in 05), A.J. Pierzynski (2.25 in 05) and El Duque (3.5 in 05). They also added Luis Vizcaino (who sucked, but oh well). I agree wholeheartedly that Pods v. Lee is not even close in terms of value, but the trade freed up salary for KW to use when Reinsdorf was tight with the purse strings (strange).

Also, signing Scott for 1 year at 2.9 isn't THAT bad. His BABIP has been really around league average in his two horrid seasons (2004 and 2006). His GB% also dropped after a really high 2005.

They'll either look to trade him or use him as a 4th OF, IMO.

Not all of us have 136 million! 8)

Am I the only one that feels that Brian Anderson can still play? Yes he had a real bad 1st year in the majors, it was just that, a bad 1st year.

I keep hearing this talk about how the Sox need a new CF'er, look at SS 1st as far as the area where improvement should be addressed, especially someone like Lugo.
