Paul Bako signs with the Orioles.

Link.

When the deal is complete, Bako will be the favorite heading into spring training to back up starter Ramon Hernandez, who is currently the only catcher on the Orioles 40-man roster. To occasionally spell Hernandez last season, who started 136 games last season, the Orioles used four different players -- Javy Lopez, Raul Chavez, Danny Ardoin and Chris Widger.

This is mentioned in the O's relief help thread... not sure if it needs it's own thread or not... not my decision.

Bako always deserves his own thread. Show some respect.

209/261/229 last year. What an awful baseball player.

But why is he in the big leagues still? The reason is because he plays great defense, calls a game pretty well, handles a pitching staff well, great tutor to the young players, and he throws out base runners better than most catchers in the league. His defense is why he is still in the big leagues.

He is??? This sounds like one of those silly intangibles arguments that you could make for just about any player who isn't known to be a complete prick. What exactly can he tell the young guys - don't be like me?

He actually generates W's every time he doesn't allow a passed ball.

My wife always liked Bako because his name rhymed with Choco Taco

My wife liked Matt Stairs because he looked like a Viking.

While these are interesting tidbits they would only be called analysis in the Joe Morgan school of baseball

But why is he in the big leagues still?

He has pictures of Bud Selig having relations with a horse.

honestly, because MLB GMs are idiots.

I'm sure Bako is a real nice guy. He really looked like one. Why do all the sucky players have to be like that?

Did he steal it from Charles "Don't call me Gnarls" Barkley stash?

That's all nonsense, tomfoolery, and poppycock.

I heard he hit for the cycle and called a perfect game without the use of an infield or outfield, and also drove in the winning grand slam using "ghost runners" on all bases.
