A buddy of mine from Cleveland said the talk up there is of a trade for Westbrook involving Marshall, either Wuertz or Ohman, and either Cedeno or Izturis.

I guess that could explain the Cubs' reported interest in Lugo.

Count me in for that trade bigtime, other than Wuertz plz. We need him. Marshall, Ohman and Izturis though, happily!

Don't forget, Ohman + Izturis = $5MM, I believe Westbrook gets $6MM in 07, so the Cubs would only take on a mere $1MM in payroll in this hypothetical deal to get themselves a bona fide #3/4 starter, in this market that would be a home run.

Theriot can easily play SS--and with much better offense--than Izturis. Or if they must, the Cubs could always sign Lugo or.....trade for Tejada? OK, now I'm hallucinating.

izturis, marshall and ohman.

pleeeeeeeeeeeeease keep wuertz.

Ohman has alot of value also. Left handed batter's only hit .158 against Ohman last year. Alot of playoff teams wanted Ohman because of his ability to get out left handed batter's.

Yes, and thats why I hope we don't trade him because then Cotts or Eyre (more likely Cotts) are going to be thrown into the LOOGY role, which neither are suited for. Unless of course we are going to bring up Rapada. I would propose Eyre, Marshall, and Izturis.

actually Westbrook would be getting 5M and some change for 2007 after arbaration. So it's basically a wash. The deal I had heard though was Jones, Izturis, and Ohman or Westbrook though. I could be wrong.

marquis probably

Why is he even in the conversation? Is Hendry enamored with him as a pinch hitter?

jennings can hit too.

Does that means that Michaels is gone? I thought I heard somewhere they might non-tender him. I wouldn't mind buying low on him to be our 4th OF.

Can we just give them both Cedeno and Izturis

I like Heilman/Westbrook/Hudson. I think that signing a FA starter is going to look like a Pavano contract.

A Pavano contract? Oh you mean like the same one that Hudson has? PASS on Hudson.

With Pie now expendable we could build a deal around him to get a good starter. Maybe someone like E. Santana, Bonderman, Bedard

how is pie expendable when soriano is going to play rf? if anyone goes its jones and not pie or murton.

eyre and izturis for westbrook.

I'd be happy with that...especially if we could sign Lugo as well.

i think the cubs will go with theroit at ss if they trade izturis. i dont think they are in the running for lugo as they wanted him to play cf.

Is there any chance that we signe Schmidt? A rotation of

Z

Schmidt

Jennings/Westbrook

Hill

Prior/Miller

would be AMAZING when added to our lineup.

I may be way behind the curve, but I heard Schmidt won't be leaving the west coast.

I think the Cubs try to sign a mid-range guy like Westbrook, and then maybe a few bench positions. Then done.

I think the aggregate of

Zambrano

Hill

Prior

Miller

Meche/Padilla

Jennings/Westbrook/Igawa

Mateo/Marshall/etc.

Would be an average-very good rotation, depending mostly on what Prior brings to the table in 2007.

If I were in Hendry's position, I would try and trade for Jennings. If that failed, I would sign Padilla or Meche and bid for and sign Kei Igawa. I would expect the combination of Miller/Prior to comprise on slot in the rotation, leaving Marshall/Mateo/Marmol to take up any injury slack.

Zambrano

Jennings/Padilla/Meche

Hill

Prior+Miller

Igawa

IMO, at least as good as what the Cards ran out there last season.

Anyone with some time care to compile a (currently) complete list of available FA & trade target pitchers?

Jennings is above everyone else, as he would be a legit #2 starter.

Hudson, Padilla, and Westbrook to me are nice options, but probably low end #2's.

Igawa is the next interesting and probably a solid 3.

Wolf and Heilman would be a great low risk/high reward guys.

Not much interest in Meche, Lilly or Batista.

At this point, it looks like the Cubs want to spend. If they can spin some salary off (Izturis, Jones, Dempster, Eyre) and make even money swaps, I'd go after cheap pitching and still go after Drew.

I think the Cubs bullpen has the potential to be great if they don't have to throw so many innings. So, the key to me is getting an arm that can give them 200+ IP and do it at least at league average. Get 2 such guys and spend little to do so, the Cubs could be a vastly improved team considering they have already upgraded the offense.

Good list, but i'm a little curious where Berdard has came up this offseason. I haven't heard anything concerning him in trade talks.
