Nobody else seems to be picking up on the YES report yet.

Indeed.

Rotoworld just did.

they make a good point - why bid $25M to negotiate with a potential end of the rotation starter, but $30M to negotiate with a frontline starter? Terrible.

I'll bet the reason the Cubs are being linked to so many pitcher rumors is the fact that they knew they were out of Igawa's bidding earlier today. It would make sense that they would make a serious offer to Schmidt now that Igawa is unavailable. I know that seems backwards but there wasn't a deadline to sign Schmidt.

I was all for matsuzaka but knew we wouldn't get him. As for Igawa he would have been nice to have but the guy I really liked was Kazumi Saito. He beat Matsuzaka in era and I believe won the Japanese version of the Cy young too. last I heard was he had some arm soreness, but some news outlets speculated that he was making it up so he wouldn't have to play in the mlb allstars tournement. I wish I knew what was up with him because he was very polished in the video I have seen.

LHPs tend to do better at Yankee Stadium thanks to a cavernous LF, but that kind of coin is insane for the guy.

Its the Yankees

You trying to run Outshined off too?

You might not like Igawa but he was a better choice than Meche and Marquis, who we will probably wind up with.

marquis yes, meche probably not(at least year two on)

Not so bold prediction.

With the amount mediocre pitching is getting, matsuzaka got, and the pitching market in general.

This guy, Igawa. The winning posting bid will be $22-$30 mil. Just watch.

I will take the under. As will nearly everyone else.

NSBB is just like elementary school!

Agreed. And just think, last offseason everyone was going wild over some barely PG-13 photos of attractive women. This offseason, it's cookies and egg nog.

Next year.....?

And one less Schmidt suitor.

I don't see how this eliminates them from Schmidt talks.

I wouldn't put anything past the Yankees, but for what it is worth, Olney in his blog today states:

The Igawa deal effectively takes the Yankees out of the Jason Schmidt and Ted Lilly markets -- although they'll probably keep a toe in the water, just to drive up the price for somebody else.

Thought it was worth mentioning the opinion is out there.

A Yankees fan in my office says NY was never in the Schmidt market. He claimed Cashman said they were not going to bid on anymore NL pitchers, because they've been burned on that.

That's what Cashman gets for overpaying for pitchers like Pavano and Wright.
