It was an awesome catch and I also thought for sure after that the Mets would pull it off. Alas, they did not. Oh well, I'm rooting for Detroit regardless of who won the NL.

That was one of the most amazing plays I've ever seen. I thought for sure the Mets were going to pull it off after that.

Am I the only one who thinks if St. Louis wins one game during the series, it will be a miracle? I swear the Tigers/Cards series has that same feeling as the White Sox/Astros of last yr, you just know the Cards are the sacrificial lambs.

absolutely not...they are gonna get killed. the best part is it will cement larussa's place in history as one of the worst post-season managers EVER. if they get swept it will be the third time he's been swept in the world series. the best of course being by Piniella and the '90 reds in one of the greatest ws upsets ever.

the 90's a's were being touted as one of the great teams EVER and the reds swept them in 4 games. it pretty much had to do with the reds taking away the running game of the a's rickey henderson. they talked about it a good bit on the dan patrick show today. basically larussa got scared to run on joe oliver (catcher) and the reds pitching staff. that and jose rijo was NASTY!! 4 games later larussa was a laughing stock because nobody in the world thought they would lose that series.

Taking a 83 win team to the WS will "cement larussa's place in history as one of the worst post-season managers EVER"?

Henderson stole three bases in three attempts in that series. The running game had nothing to do with the A's getting swept.

When he put on that Jersey. I swear Duncan is a Genius or they are the luckiest team alive pitching wise. they turn lemons into lemonade consistantly. Look at Weaver for god sakes!

I don't see how you you can rag LaRussa for playoff success or failure.

Isn't that like calling the last guy getting into Harvard "one of the dumbest guys to get into Harvard?"

He's still made it to Harvard.

Playoffs are tough - good teams there. This will be his 5th world series appearance. Calling him a poor postseason manager is a stretch, IMO.

actually weaver sucked during the regular season for the cards too... he just all of a sudden learned how to pitch once the playoffs rolled around.

Sometimes the pixie dust doesn't come alive until they need it to, as opposed to just letting them run away with everything a la 2004-05.

Yup..with their roster, they realized that in 2004 and 2005 their pixie dust ran out. So this year, they conserved it, like a Nascar or Indycar driver conserves fuel while in the lead. They conserved it so much that they almost gave up the lead, but have been putting a lot of it on now. Getting Yadear Molina to hit that kind of home run? They must have used the rest of it :D

Suppan isn't unhittable, but he is a very solid pitcher. He is very reliable, making 30+ starts and around 180-200 innings the past 4 years. Has pretty good control and an ERA around 3.80-4.15.

Depending on what happens during the winter I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in to be a # 3 or 4. The Cubs need someone better than him, but pairing him up with a #1 or 2 wouldn't be a bad move.

I agree, in that you know what you're going to get out of him every year - makes every start and puts up about a league-average ERA. Guys who can do that can often be had for a bargain price.

Personally, I think they should have stopped the game after that catch. Mets win game 7 after 6 innings. End of story. That was unbelievable. It cracked me up how he didn't even realize he caught the ball, but doubling Edmonds off was just the cherry on top. That was great.

because he has a track record of getting ABSOLUTELY WAXED in the series. he lost in 5 to the dodgers, 4 to the reds, and 4 to the sox. if he loses in 4 or 5 to the tigers this year, you have to see a pattern developing. kinda like everybody's beloved billy beane only winning one playoff series ever...there's a pattern there too.

and for the record george bush went to yale...money gets ya' a lot of places in the ivy league so that "harvard argument" doesn't make much sense
