I would rather have Soriano leading off. Soriano is more of a threat to steal a base than Murton is. Murton would benefit being in the 2 spot, because he has the ability to hit the ball anywhere on the field, and he makes contract the majority of the time.

He's also far more of a threat to get caught stealing, which is far more damaging than a stolen base is positive.

OBP should count first and foremost for a leadoff guy.

I'll be honest. This hiring is neither here nor there for me. I won't lose sleep over it. I care WAY more about the upcoming free agency period than who sits in the dugout looking fat and old

QFT, let's fire up the hot stove. That's when things get real interesting. Wake me up in November.

Count me in as well. Let's stop this at 99.

Didn't realize Soriano was that bad on the bases last year. Of course, that was his worst year for stolen bases in his entire career.

Soriano put up career power numbers last year, but his real success was a career high in walks (76% more walks than his previous career high). The real question with Soriano is if he can keep that up/improve it. And would the new coaching staff help or hurt him.

Just showing off the new sig!

That's awesome.

(Although, let it be known that the real reign of terror had more to do with Robespierre than Napoleon, but that's another story... :D )

As somone who followed the M's very closely during Piniella's "reign of terror" (thank you Jr Griffey) I will anxiously await the 1st day he gets kicked out ta game.

That being said...I agree with the above view posts. I will hold judgement on the '07 version of the Cubs after I see how things shake up in the offseason.

wow, none of those things are particularly important for a 1 or 2 hitter.

I'd rather have Soriano in the 5 hole to maybe keep him from stealing so much.

Murton

2B ( because you gotta bat the 2b second)

Lee

Ramirez

Soriano

Jones

Barrett

Izturris

I think Murton would be a good leadoff hitter - how cool would it be to see our leadoff man start the game with a 6 or 7 pitch at bat once?

Are you kidding me? Have you watched the Dertroit Tigers? Granderson gets on base, then Polanco moves him over with a bunt, or the hit and run. Works out pretty well for them. Whitesox used it in 05 also.

FWIW, Steve Stone just interviewed on WSCR mentioned that he knows many people in baseball that believe Larry Rothschild is a top 5 MLB pitching coach and that he believes that the Cubs will be in a world series within the next two years.

That's exactly how I feel about this.

Why would you want a 40 HR hitter batting leadoff?? So he can just hit solo shots the entire time? I think Murton would be a perfect number 2 with his OBP..Id stick Soriano Probably 3rd, then DLee and ARam for a sweet heart of the order..Depends whos leading off, We dont know if Pierre will be back but Id be happy with Pierre,Murton,Soriano,DLee,Aram

Steve Stone also said the Cubs would win a World Series with Baker as their manager.

If Theriot stepped up it would be possible. I would just be hesitant to have the 2 young guys leading off. Plus, if Soriano is comfortable in the leadoff spot he might be talked into hitting 2 but 5th might make him feel uncomfortable, but, if he likes the lineup ahead of him it may work. At least Lou would have some decent choices.

The White Sox offense was below average. The reason they weren't completely pathetic was because both teams had the ability to hit 200 home runs. I'd be willing to bet that the White Sox and Tigers would've scored more runs if they didn't get CS or give up outs in place of trying to get on base or something similar.

I agree...Soriano is not an ideal leadoff hitter IMO.

Murton LF

Durham 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Soriano CF

Barret C

Jones RF

Izturis SS

We should trade for Tejada, that would be my ideal lineup.

Sign Zito and someone like Meche and/or Padilla, boom...bam...get the season on!

We were pretty close to doing it too.

I was thinking more of picking up the proverbial " proven vet " at 2b with Theriot as a util this year but I don't necessarily disagree with your post.

I would rather see the Cubs add Suppan to their rotation.
