KU hammered KSU by 27. Not happy with he students, though. DUI chant + front page spread in the school paper titled "Hugs and Thugs" is pretty weak. Particularly the paper, as it reflects more on the university than a lame chant at the arena. Tacky.

I'd like to say that I completely approve of all of that.

I'd like to say it's totally classless...

so is hiring a lowlife like thuggins to lead a basketball program. When you hire someone like him, people are going to make jokes about it.

LMAO! Like he's any more of a low life than half of the coaches out there. Give me a break. So, the guy got a DUI? So did I years ago, but does that make me a lowlife? It's all preception

What's really funny is how you make such excuses for him, put your head in the sand and act like he's no different than anyone else. You're too much.

When he was hired you had to ask us on this board about his past becuase you didn't know. But you're right. The whole basketball world is wrong but you K-State fans defending Huggins' character are right. Brilliant!

If you weren't such an over-the-top apologist and homer, I doubt people would say as much. But you refuse to admit that the man is slimier than the majority of coaches out there. You refused to admit there was anything wrong with his recruiting of certain players and refused to admit that O.J. Mayo had any character problems until it was clear he wasn't heading to KSU. How convenient.

It's all preception, but it's very classless of a university newspaper to print something like that. KU cheats and is sanctioned by the NCAA for it, but Huggins is a lowlife... hahahaha! Pot- Kettle!

While there are plenty of coaches out there who have made a mistake or two, I'm not sure how many are out there that have the long record Huggins has.

1. His players get arrested many, many times during his tenure, some for serious charges.

2. He gets the school put on decently serious probation for a "lack of institutional control" of the program.

3. His graduation rates were awful.

4. The DUI

That doesn't even mention the coaching fact that his teams under-achieved in Marchh consistently, which of course didn't make him popular to Cincy fans who could get past everything else.

I don't think he's a terrible hire for a program wanting to go on the way up. However, he has had some sort of controversy around him for the last 15 years, and because of that his reputation is probably the second worst in the country behind Knight. Like I said, some coaches have made some of those mistakes, but not many had such little control of their program as Huggins did in Cincy.

Doesn't every fan base do this though?

Homer- No... He's just done nothing yet to make me think he's "slimy" I love all the negativity toward him though, the majority of which I think comes from him winning games. I could provide quite a few examples of other coaches who have done the same sorts of things as huggins in their past, and when I get a chance to do so today, I'll provide examples. It doesn't bother me at all that people don't like him, I couldn't care less. The classless thing though was the KU newspaper, and that was my point.

Mike Tisdale played 32 minutes and made lots of jump hooks and blocks with his left hand - 35 pts, 14 rebs, 14 blks. I hope this kid puts on enough weight to play some next year.

Jealousy of him winning games? Who would be jealous? Unless you were a Conference USA fan, his winning really wouldn't bother anyone because he didn't win very much in the NCAA's. Nice try though.

You're just too much.

illiniguy, yes most fans do that to some extent. But many fans can at least understand why people get perceptions of their players/coaches. This guy refuses to admit that Thuggins has ever done anything wrong.

This just in: When you don't know enough about a guy that you have to come here and ask us about his past, you probably don't look very smart when you later say that all of the perceptions about him from the ENTIRE basketball world in the country are wrong and you're right. How do you not understand that?

Huggins has only had the chance to recruit, what, 2 or 3 players so far, and one of them has already gotten ejected for straight up throwing a haymaker to the back of someone's head(and he also almost obliterated a chair when they came to Columbia). Huggins's past speaks for itself, he recruits thug athletes and if he makes the tournament he underperforms his seed.

The main thing is he recruited those kids without any rules governing him either as he wasn't employed. You think he walked the straight line with Walker when no one was in charge of him?

Who cares what he did, there were no rules against it. He was unemployed... he could go watch any players he wanted, and get them on his side. I for one love the tactic. Yes maybe because we landed Walker, so I'm biased, but who cares. :)

Well it is not very ethical, so if he crossed the line there one would assume he has at other junctions as well.

I love how when Duke is in the midst of a three game losing streak the announcers, Patrick and Vitale, have to fall all over themselves to stick up for the program. Down years happen at other places and these boobs don't do all they can to talk about how great the program has been. I hope they face plant early this year.

Its petty I know but, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Duke and Scheyer go down. Despite their early lead everyone knew it was a matter of time before UNC caught them and took control. Even Dickie V admitted as much by stating they're outmanned by UNC, Duke will get an artificially NCAA high seed and be history by round 2.

Wouldn't be something if the Illini managed to squeeze in and be the team that Duke down?

They always seem a little bias towards Duke. I remember when Vitale just started and was doing mostly BE games.

Paulus's kid brother played football against our school this year. He's a pretty good QB but kind of a jerk. We have this huge sign that says you have to take your spikes off before entering the school and his teammates took the time to do so. He of course doesn't think this pertains to him and walks in with his cleats on and falls. He gets up swearing with a ton of little kids around and screaming he's going to sue the school if he got hurt. Real nice kid, bright too.

I'm sure Duke's seed will be a little high, but maybe not. They are going to have to fight to even have a .500 record in the ACC this year, and if they lose in the first round of the con tourney, I can't see how you could possibly justify them being higher than a 6

I'd like to say it's totally classless... You're just pissed cuz Mizzou sucks, and lost twice to us this year. Well, get use to it. It won't change next year.

In response to this, and I can't speak for TT, but I'm more than pleasantly surprised that we have 14 wins already this year. I had NO expectations coming into this season, and Mike Anderson has already shown that he can build a winning program here. I said at the beginning of the year I'd be happy with sneaking into the NIT, and we have a solid chance at 17-19 wins.

And yes, it will change next year. Demarre Carroll alone could put us at at least .500 in the Big 12. Plus, give guys like Tiller and K. Lawrence more experience, this team will be MUCH better next year.

Really, it's no surprise that Mizzou isn't doing all that well in the Big 12. They have 1 senior who doesn't and shouldn't play all that much. They have Freshman and Sophomores combining for about 80 minutes a game, plus a couple 1st year JUCOs combining for about 45 more. Anderson didn't inherit a senior-heavy team like Huggins did. I definitely share the enthusiasm about next year's team though. Carroll is just what the doctor ordered, and hopefully Anderson makes the one scholarship count with who he brings in.

It might be funny(ish), but I'd like to see the school paper make better decisions than this:

While you can't really control what the crowd is going to chant during the game, and considering some of them aren't sober, I have to say that I think the newspaper was out of line in printing what they did. It would be one thing for one person to write a column on the subject and use that terminology but for the paper to print a full page spread like that is taking it a too far.

I definitely agree because that spread attacks his players also-and while the lines are ambiguous on a coach, I definitely think that a newspaper has no business whatsoever attacking college kids like that spread does by calling them "thugs".

Well, I'm not saying they aren't thugs-just that it should be above an official source like a newspaper to be saying that about college kids-professionals sure, but I just think college kids should be shielded a little bit-not from the fans, but at least the people that work in the field.

So now you're saying it's okay what the newspaper did because of one incident by one player. A little unfair don't you think?
