Thanks, Serena.

I was reading a Padres forum and saw a post about Towers coming on right before he did and was able to google it.

They may have talked to someone other than Towers (Sandy Alderson is the President) -- he said in the interview that was possible and, though they talk everyday, the phone calls may have crossed.

Sounds like permission has been granted!

I thought you said "Sounds like pessimism has been granted!"

What if Towers wants Hill or another pitcher like that for Boche?

Ahh - (I guess the former) Mighty 1090. thanks.

I recognized one of the radio guys (Bill Werndl - the guy with the annoying voice). He used to work on an LA/San Diego sports radio station a few years back.

If Hendry considers that he needs to be relieved of his duties immediately.

Well....look what Leyland did for the Tigers. He made them win.

Did your head explode after you read that? :D

I can do without arcane rules about facial hair,

See, this is where we differ. I'd like all Cubs players to be required to sport handlebar moustaches.

Well, Hendry will sink or swim with his decision, so it would be nice to see him show some guts and pick someone like Bochy. I would much rather prefer Bochy than any of the other candidates on the lists that have been reported.

I could live with Bochy. He seems like a solid baseball guy. He has almost a .500 record in SD, no mean feat. G is still my preference, mostly because he is a chicago boy and because he is a hard *ss. Maybe I am over-reacting, but I am ready for a manager who is a hard *ss.

Sethuel,

That is a little heavy handed, don't you think? They should have the option of handlebar or a fu-man-chu. But upper lip facial hair should be an absolute requirement.

On another note, as much of a fan as I am of Theriot, is anyone else bothered by his attempt to have a moustache or goatee or whatever the heck that is on his face?

A return to wool uniforms is also in order.

a small update:

Bruce Bochy is available.

The Padres will grant permission for Bochy, their manager of the past 12 seasons, to interview with other clubs, FOXSports.com has learned.

The Cubs and Giants are the two most likely teams to seek permission to interview Bochy. The Rangers and Nationals also have managerial openings.

Lou Piniella is the front-runner for the Cubs' job, according to major-league sources, but the sudden availability of Bochy could alter the team's plans.

Dear lord Jebus please make this happen, I'll buy more Cubs tickets than ever next year.

I don't know why he wouldn't consider the Cubs job. He's underappreciated in San Diego. The fans want him gone.

I've been upset with San Diego for not opening up the wallets for more talent and I'm not even a Padres fan. Imagine how Boch must feel watching ownership put it all in their wallet. Look at San Diego's attendance in that fancy new, high priced stadium to know they are doing quite well.

Yet, Bochy goes out and wins divisions with very little to work with.

Send him our way. They can have Dusty.

Like I said, I honestly think the Cubs want Bochy. I honestly think they want someone else to get Girardi. I think Piniella is the fallback plan if Bochy isn't available.

Does anyone remember who Bochy worked for as a coach before they came over from Diego to manage the Cubs? He was well thought of, had done something with little payroll, and was "young" and "energetic".

Not saying, just saying.

As an aside getting to talk to J.R. about hitting was an interesting discussion. Preached the line drive. Drive the ball with backspin and you could hit them out all day.
