  1. He said he discussed it with all the scouts that were there (about 12-15). This particular one I have not seen this year, I get to sit in these seats about 10 games a year. But I did over hear someone say that he was a former White Sox pitcher who had his career ended short by a rotator cuff injury and that he has written 2 books on pitching. He was probably mid-40s. If anyone can figure out who he is from that, then god bless. I didn't recognize him. Larry Monroe? He's in charge of Major League Scouting for them. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/photo/exe_mugs/l-monroe.jpg That is absolutely him. Larry Monroe
  2. If anyone it was Hibbard. I would have recognized the other ones.

  4. Yeah, I doubt he is injured as well. My feeling from the scout talking to Cusack was he was kind of trying to impress him. But he said all the scouts had been talking about the dropped arm slot. I sat in the same seats last thursday and watched Marmol's stuff and how much it moves from this supposed new arm slot and it looked untouchable. By the way you have to give Hart credit last night, the kid lands 3 hours before the opening pitch and then comes in with the bases loaded and nobody out and only gives up a run. Clearly the first batter his knees were knocking.
  5. Last night at the game, I sat seven rows behind home plate, which for those of you who don't know is one row behind where all of the scouts sit. Last night John Cusack happened to be sitting right behind us and in the bottom of the eighth he asked one of the White Sox scouts why Marmol and Howry weren't called in to pitch. The scout said he thinks Marmol is either slightly injured or he has a very tired arm because he said his arm slot has dropped about 8 inches over the last month. (mind you he has still been very effective) And that for the next week or two we will only see Howry and Marmol when we are ahead, for the meantime at least. After that he is going to have use them everytime he needs them. Now that is just one scouts take on it, but I thought it was interesting to hear him talk about Marmol dropping his arm slot so drastically. He also did say he thought it was just a tired arm and Lou may try to give him a few days off to rest before the final push. Take it for what its worth
  6. Is Ryan Raburn as good as he has played over the last month or is this just a hot start that he won't be able to sustain?
  7. Well part of the reason is, if the fielder is deemed to have intentionally dropped the ball (it goes into his glove and he never closes it, type deal) they rule it a dead ball I believe and the batter is out. Now they doesn't mean that on a pop fly someone couldn't intentionally let it land in front of them. The risk there is you could throw the ball away or it could take a funny hop. And lastly there is the infield fly rule which protects against this as well.
  8. Now do we try for a 3rd baseman from the waiver wire? DeRosa is simply not gonna hack it out there everyday if Ramirez is down for any amount of time. Or do we bring Scott Moore back up to the bigs? I love DeRosa's versatility, but honestly the guy has done nothing for the last month and a half power wise. We need to get someone who can play 3rd base ASAP if Ramirez is got wrist issues.
  9. Any chance we can recall Trenidad Hubbard? He still kicking around the farm system or at age 80 did he finally hang it up? I hope and pray that JJ or Floyd is traded for Wily Mo and Patterson is coming in to back up 2nd base and Fontenot is sent down to learn how to hit a breaking ball.
  10. This is the Cubs we are talking about, we can never have enough 2nd basemen. Did we all forget last year we had the three headed monster of Hairston, Walker, and Theriot/Cedeno. Side note: Remember last year when they wanted to switch Cedeno to 2nd base and they said he needed at least a week of infield and to break in his new glove. How come it didn't take that long for Fontenot or Theriot or DeRosa? Oh Dusty, how I do not miss thee!
  11. I am in a 12 team keeper league (get to keep 8 players) and have found myself in last place some 30 games out because I inherited a team with a lot of old veterans who have been injured (Randy Johnson and Smoltz). I have been proposed a trade and wanted some opinions. I get: Ryan Braun Hunter Pence Tom Gorzelanny I give up: Rafael Furcal Manny Ramirez John Smoltz The rest of my roster looks like this: McCann Delgado Kent Melvin Mora Torii Hunter Vernon Wells Jack Cust David DeJesus Youkilis Thome Josh Willingham Aaron Hill Bill Hall Pitchers: Boof bonser Jered Weaver Jeff Francis Todd Jones Alfonseca Carlos Villanueva Joe Smith Pat Neshek Derek Lowe Randy Johnson Here are our categories: Batting R HR RBI SB K AVG OPS Pitching W L SV K ERA WHIP K/BB
  12. What about Jacque for Laird? We need someone who has caught more than 50 games in their career.
  13. If we can be a .500 team in the NL Central, that would be fantastic. The Cardinals are the reigning world Series champs and they were 1 game over. This team is improved offensively, managerially, but the pitching is the big ? We have 1 proven starter and then 4 ? marks after that. Hill could be an 18-20 game winner or he could be the guy with a 7.00 ERA, and lets just hope Hendry and his hospital bed know something more than we do about Lilly. As for the rest of the rotation, just pray for health!
  14. What is all this talk about how Aramis will be in decline at age 32? We just signed a 31 tear old to an 8 year deal, and everyone including myself is very excited about it. Nobody has mentioned that Soriano is on the downside of his career. And part of his appeal is his base stealing ability and we all know that decreases with age, if anyone were to decline it would be someone who relies on speed. Aramis should still be very productive at age 32 and still one of the top 3rd basemen in the league when his opt out clause comes up.
  15. This may have been posted somewhere else, but according to the article on Cubs.com he has an opt out clause similar to his old contract after four years. Here is the link http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061121&content_id=1745120&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc How could Hendry do this again?
